His Love Can Save Anyone
"As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?' 'Who are you, Lord?' Saul asked. 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,' he replied."1
No one is beyond God's reach. His love can save anyone, no matter how far the person has fallen. In that sense, consider Saul of Tarsus, who was later known as the apostle Paul. On the road to Damascus, which Saul traveled "breathing threats of death against the disciples" (Acts 9:1), he met the Savior and everything changed.
Christ called him by name, saying, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" (verse 4). But the persecutor could not answer him because he did not yet know Christ. However, he didn't have to wait long. "I am Jesus, whom you persecute," the Lord said to the future apostle (verse 5). And that's when the great work began. Immediately he preached Christ in the synagogues… proving that Jesus was the Christ (verses 20-22).
In John 10:27, the Lord said, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." The knowledge between the Savior and His servant became so profound that Paul, the "chosen instrument," bore the name of Christ in the presence of the Gentiles and suffered for His name (Acts 9:15-16).
Paul heard. He recognized the voice of his Savior, and followed Him. Let's do the same.
Suggested Prayer: Beloved Father, today, once again, I acknowledge your great love for me. Thank you because you speak to me by my name and I recognize your voice and follow you, but I also ask your forgiveness because there are times when the hustle and bustle of the daily routine distracts me and I do not hear your voice above the noise. Let me put distractions aside so I can hear your voice clearly and follow you. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
1. Acts 9:3-5 (RVR1960).
