Worthy Brief - August 20, 2026
You were made to live one day at a time in the Kingdom!
Matthew 6:33–34 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
This is where the teaching ends. Yeshua (Jesus) has instructed us concerning mammon, the birds, and the lilies, and now He gives us the governing principle behind it all: “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
If you notice carefully, He never tells us to disregard food, clothing, or provision; instead, He establishes the order of priority — the Kingdom of God first and His righteousness.
The kingdom in view is malchut (מַלְכוּת), God's reign and rule wherever He is truly acknowledged as King. Paired with it is His righteousness, tzidkato (צִדְקָתוֹ), built from the root tzedek/tzedakah, but here carrying that personal possessive, His righteousness specifically. It speaks of more than moral correctness; it speaks of right relationship, a life in tune with His covenant, walking in step with the God who keeps His Word. Seek His reign and His righteousness first, and everything else falls in line behind it.
Yeshua then closes the teaching with a strikingly practical instruction: “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Today carries enough on its own; there is no need to overwhelm yourself with tomorrow’s burdens prematurely.
This principle reaches back to the wilderness wanderings of the children of Israel. As God supplied Israel daily with manna, they could gather only what they needed for that day. Any attempt to store extra spoiled by morning. This was divine training—teaching an entire generation to trust Him afresh with each new day. Every morning brought a new test of faith and a new provision of grace.
Yeshua applies the same principle here. He is not warning against wise planning, but against carrying tomorrow’s weight today instead of trusting Him with it when it arrives.
Much of the exhaustion we carry comes not from today being heavy, but from piling tomorrow’s weight, and next month’s, and next year’s, on top of it. Yeshua instructs us to set that down.
Today has its own portion of difficulty; however, today also has its own portion of grace. Tomorrow will receive its portion when tomorrow arrives.
Ashrei (אַשְׁרֵי)—blessed—is the one who seeks the King daily for his needs and rests in His daily provision. Blessed is the one who has decided not to carry tomorrow's weight today, but instead trusts his Heavenly Father to take care of the future.
The same God who rained manna on a wilderness generation is raining fresh grace over you this very morning, sufficient, sustaining, and perfectly timed. You were never created to carry the weight of tomorrow, you were created to seek the King who already governs it, so seek Him first and watch today's need meet you right on time. Hold your head high and move forward in bold confidence, the King who has you covered today already holds tomorrow in His hand.
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,
