Today's Daily Encounter Thursday, November 30, 2023 Great Treasure I rejoice at Your word As one who finds great treasure.1 William Randolf Hearst was a famous newspaperman and art collector. He proudly filled his mansion with artful masterpieces. One day he learned of a painting that was supposed to be especially valuable and commanded his scouts to search for it. At last, one of them returned and reported that he had located the painting. Excitedly, Mr. Hearst commanded him to buy it! The amused scout replied, "You already own it! It's sitting in a crate in one of your warehouses!"   Hearst valued his masterpieces and always longed for more, but didn't realize that he already held in his possession the one of greatest value. How could he have overlooked having such a grand treasure? The same way we overlook our most valued treasure — God's Word. This priceless Masterpiece sits in the home of every believer, many times hidden from view and forgotten. We go th...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 30th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 30th “God Is in the Front Line ” - Deuteronomy 31:8 In the presence of a great work or a great warfare, here is a text which should help us to buckle on our harness. If Jehovah Himself goes before us, it must be safe to follow. Who can obstruct our progress if the LORD Himself is in the van? Come, brother soldiers, let us make a prompt advance! Why do we hesitate to pass on to victory? Nor is the LORD before us only; He is with us. Above, beneath, around, within is the omnipotent, omnipresent One. In all time, even to eternity, He will be with us even as He has been. How this should nerve our arm! Dash at it boldly, ye soldiers of the cross, for the LORD of hosts is with us! Being before us and with us, He will never withdraw His help. He cannot fail in Himself, and He will not fail toward us. He will continue to help us according to our need, even to the end. As He cannot fail us, so He will not forsake us. ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 30th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 30th “In lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” (Philippians 2:3) When the apostle speaks of “the deep things of God,” he means more than deep spiritual truth. There must be something before this. There must be a deep soil and a thorough foundation. Very much of our spiritual teaching fails, because the people to whom we give it are so shallow. Their deeper nature has never been stirred. The beatitudes begin at the bottom of things, the poor in spirit, the mourners, and the hungry hearts. Suffering is essential to profound spiritual life. We need not go to a monastery or a leper hospital to find it. The first real opportunity for unselfishness will bring into your life the anguish of crucifixion, unless you are born of some different race from Adam’s. It is because men and women have not faced this that they know so little of suffering and death. We must have deep convictions. Truth must be to us a necessity, and pri...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 30th

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 30th Tozer in the Morning Worldly Pollution What, then, is that world against which we are warned by the apostles? That world whose friendship constitutes spiritual adultery, the love of which stands in opposition to the love of God? It is the familiar world of sinful human society which swells about and beneath us as the waters of the flood once surged and churned around the ark of Noah. No Christian need fail to recognize it, provided he wants to know what it is and where it is located. Here are a few infallible marks of identification: 1. Unbelief. Wherever men refuse to come under the authority of the inspired Scriptures, there is the world. Religion without the Son of God is worldly religion. To have fellowship with those who live in unbelief is to love the world. The Christian's communion should be with Christians. 2. Impenitence. The people of the world will readily admit that they are sinners, but their lack of sorrow...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th November 2023 November 30 James 4:13-15 13Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." In the first century there were more Jews living outside of Israel than inside its boundaries. God gifted them with a good sense of business. Cities that were being founded in remote areas would offer incentives to begin a business there. It gave Jews an opportunity to make large sums of money. The expression in the passage was quite common. In our world it is just as common. A business idea captures our imagination. Things start to fall into place, and before you know it, we are boasting about the great success we are about to ...

Daily Christian Quote 30th November 2023 Ed Stetzer November 30, 2023 We are willing to demonstrate grace and healing to those who look, act, and struggle the same way we do, but condemn and alienate those who look, act, or struggle differently. As a result, when people in our churches, whether out of curiosity or need, seek to discuss uncomfortable topics like racial injustice, they are often met with scorn or simplistic responses meant to quickly dismiss the conversation and silence "the other" because of the discomfort the topic creates. Such responses are profoundly unloving. https://dailychristianquote.com

Worthy Brief - November 29, 2023

Worthy Brief - November 29, 2023 Are you wrestling with God? Genesis 32:24-30 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, "Let Me go, for the day breaks." But he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!" So He said to him, "What is your name?" He said, "Jacob." And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed." Then Jacob asked, saying, "Tell me Your name, I pray." And He said, "Why is it that you ask about My name?" And He blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: "For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." In the most extreme moment of his life, when his entire ...

Today's Daily Encounter Wednesday, November 29, 2023 God's Direction "Because of your great compassion you did not abandon them in the wilderness. By day the pillar of cloud did not fail to guide them on their path, nor the pillar of fire by night to shine on the way they were to take."1 After God's will and purpose, our life is the result of our own decisions. Whether they are small or large decisions, they all have consequences and in every situation we face there is a decision to make that will affect us, our loved ones and those around us. It has been said that we define our decisions, but our decisions define us. That's why decision-making requires energy that exhausts us and can lead to an overwhelming state of anxiety. So what do we do now? Let us make a firm decision to follow Jesus and allow ourselves to be led by him, for he is not only a Lord who governs us, but a shepherd who also guides us. He will not merely feed us daily, but will guide us accor...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 29th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 29th “Know How to Wait ” - Isaiah 28:16 He shall make haste to keep the LORD’s commandments; but he shall not make haste in any impatient or improper sense. He shall not haste to run away, for he shall not be overcome with the fear which causes panic. When others are flying hither and thither as if their wits had failed them, the believer shall be quiet, calm, and deliberate, and so shall be able to act wisely in the hour of trial. He shall not haste in his expectations, craving his good things at once and on the spot, but he will wait God’s time. Some are in a desperate hurry to have the bird in the hand, for they regard the LORD’s promise as a bird in the bush, not likely to be theirs. Believers know how to wait. He shall not haste by plunging into wrong or questionable action. Unbelief must be doing something, and thus it works its own undoing; but faith makes no more haste than good speed, and thus it is ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 29th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 29th “Could ye not watch with Me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40) A young lady whose parents had died while she was an infant, had been kindly cared for by a dear friend of the family. Before she was old enough to know him, he went to Europe. Regularly he wrote to her through all his years of absence, and never failed to send her money for all her wants. Finally word came that during a certain week he would return and visit her. He did not fix the day or the hour. She received several invitations to take pleasant trips with her friends during that week. One of these was of so pleasant a nature that she could not resist accepting it. During her trip, he came, inquired as to her absence, and left. Returning she found this note: “My life has been a struggle for you, might you not have waited one week for me?” More she never heard, and her life of plenty became one of want. Jesus has not fixed the day or hour of His return, but He has said, “Watch,” a...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 29th

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 29th Tozer in the Morning Prayer is No Substitute for Obedience Granted that the man who seeks revival has stopped thinking in plurals and has narrowed his faith down to one single individual, himself, what then? How can he find that after which his soul is yearning? How can he cooperate with his hungers to the end that he may indeed be filled? He must rid his mind of the false notion that prayer alone will bring the blessing. Normally all transactions between the soul and God are carried on by prayer. It is right and scriptural and according to the testimony of all the saints that any spiritual advance on any front, any deliverance, any purification, any enduement of power, comes by the prayer of faith. Our error is that we try to secure these benefits by prayer alone. The correction of this error is extremely difficult for it entails more than a mere adjustment of our doctrinal beliefs; it strikes at the whole Adam-life and req...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th November 2023

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th November 2023 November 29 James 4:1-3 1What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? 2You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Godly wisdom produces a peace. Worldly wisdom is always self-seeking and therefore erupts in strife. It starts with desires in the heart. If your desires are surrendered to your Creator, whom you trust, then He will bring every needed thing into your life. Then you don't have to vie with others for position and power. But if, on the other hand, you think that you must cunningly and shrewdly get the upper hand over others to get what you want, you will end up in a fight or quarrel with them. God is the giver of all good thi...

Worthy Brief - November 28, 2023

Worthy Brief - November 28, 2023 Anyone can be restored! Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. There is a fascinating true story about the Apostle John narrated by the early church "Father", Eusebius, well worth reading. The account goes that the elderly John took an affection and interest in a young man from Ephesus and subsequently entrusted him to the care of a bishop in the vicinity, and that, after a season, this young man became entangled with a band of criminals, and was corrupted by them, finally becoming their leader. When John returned after some time to search for the young man, expecting to find him spiritually well and maturing, the bishop despondently informed John of his fate. Eusebius wrote, "The apostle tore his clothing, beat his head, and groaned, 'A fine guardian I left for our brother's soul! But get me a...

Today's Daily Encounter Tuesday, November 28, 2023 Impossible to Resist the Light "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."1 The story is told of Gordon Maxwell, missionary to India, that when he asked a Hindu scholar to teach him the language, the Hindu replied: "No Sahib, I will not teach you my language. You would make me a Christian." Gordon Maxwell replied: "You misunderstand me. I am simply asking you to teach me your language." Again, the Hindu responded, "No, Sahib, I will not teach you. No man can live with you and not become a Christian." Wow. What a powerful testimony Gordon Maxwell must have had for the Hindu man to be so convinced of what would happen should he spend time with him! Wouldn't it be amazing to see someone's faith in action so loudly that words were not necessary? This is what God wants from all His followers, including you and ...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th November 2023 November 28 James 3:17-18 17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. There are two kinds of wisdom. One is a wisdom that James calls "earthly, unspiritual, and of the devil". It springs from envy and selfish-ambition. The other kind of wisdom comes from heaven. It is pure, unpolluted by personal motives and agendas. You can accuse it of such, but in time it will be revealed to be without corruption. It is peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. You can use these descriptions for each fruit of the Spirit. They should be our plumb line for determining if our conversation is in the Spirit or in the flesh. They reveal the source of any wisdom being expounded, and there are only two sources. Worthy Brief - November 27, 2023 Can't touch this! James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Carl Armerding wrote a funny story in Moody Monthly, about his experience at the zoo. "As I stood there," he said, "an attendant entered the cage through a door on the opposite side. He had nothing in his hands but a broom. Carefully closing the door, he proceeded to sweep the floor of the cage." He observed that the worker had no weapon to ward off an attack by the beast. In fact, when he got to the corner of the cage where the wildcat was lying, he poked the animal with the broom. The wildcat hissed at him and then lay down in another corner of the enclosure. Armerding remarked to the attendant, "You certainly are a brave man." "No, I ain't brave," he replied as he continued to sweep. "Well, then, that cat must be tame." "No," came the reply, "he ain't tame." "If you are...

Today's Daily Encounter Monday, November 27, 2023 The Power of Our Words "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be."1 The words you say have extraordinary power. Your voice is unique; it is a gift from God. There has never been a person who speaks like you, and your words have enormous potential. The use we make of our words says a lot about us, as it is one of the main ways we influence those around us. Our words have the ability to encourage or discourage, to build or destroy, to kill or to give life. Reckless words pierce like swords. It's important to remember that your words are powerful and your speech is valuable. The best and worst of us can be revealed through our words. James gives us several examples of the power of words and the influence of the tongue. It talks about putting a bridle ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 27th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 27th “Rest in All Thy Goings ” - Exodus 33:14 Precious promise! LORD, enable me to appropriate it as all my own. We must go at certain times from our abode, for here we have no continuing city. It often happens that when we feel most at home in a place, we are suddenly called away from it. Here is the antidote for this ill. The LORD Himself will keep us company. His presence, which includes His favor, His fellowship, His care, and His power, shall be ever with us in every one of our marchings. This means far more than it says; for, in fact, it means all things. If we have God present with us, we have possession of heaven and earth. Go with me, LORD, and then command me where Thou wilt! But we hope to find a place of rest. The text promises it. We are to have rest of God’s own giving, making, and preserving. His presence will cause us to rest even when we are on the march, yea, even in the midst of battle. Res...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 27th “And the remnant of the oil ... shall pour upon the head” (Leviticus 14:18) In the account of the healing of the Hebrew leper there is a beautiful picture of the touching of his ears, hands and feet, with the redeeming blood and the consecrating oil, as a sign that his powers of understanding, service, and conduct were set apart to God, and divinely endued for the Master’s work and will. But after all this, we are significantly told that “the rest of the oil” was to be poured upon his head. The former anointing was from the oil in the hand of the priest, but the latter was to be from the log, or vessel of oil itself. It was to be literally emptied over him, until he was bathed with all its contents. It is a figure of the large and boundless baptism of the Holy Ghost. It speaks of something more even than the ordinary experiences of the consecrated Christian. It tells of the abundant and redundant supply which God has for us out of His i...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 27th Tozer in the Morning Memorization Priority Certain cultures have stressed memorization to a point where education consists largely in learning by rote a few of the classics. . . . About this two things may be said: One, that great skill in memorizing is found almost exclusively among peoples where books are scarce and where a certain limited few important classics are about all the reading matter required for an education as understood by those peoples. In the English-speaking world of today we have available not only everything that has ever been written in our mother tongue, but everything that has ever been written in any language, done for us in English translation. In the face of such a mountain of books, memorizing on any wide scale will be seen to be altogether impossible. The second thing is that excessive memorization kills the impulse to think independent thoughts and makes us into tape recording machines full of o...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th November 2023 November 27 James 2:14-17 14What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. Faith produces action. The early church must have had just as much trouble as we do when they realized that they were saved by faith in Christ. People looked on it as a magic formula. They thought if they understood what Christ did for them and voiced their acceptance of it, they had a guaranteed place in heaven. James is trying to tell them that genuine faith will result in actions. You can't separate faith and actions. The actions don't save us, but they will accompany real faith. Jesus said the same thing by d...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 26th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 26th “Heavenly Alchemy ” - John 16:20 Their particular sorrow was the death and absence of their LORD, and it was turned into joy when He rose from the dead and showed Himself in their midst. All the sorrows of saints shall be thus transmuted, even the worst of them, which look as if they must forever remain fountains of bitterness. Then the more sorrow, the more joy. If we have loads of sorrow, then the LORD’s power will turn them into tons of joy. Then the bitterer the trouble the sweeter the pleasure: the swinging of the pendulum far to the left will cause it to go all the farther to the right. The remembrance of the grief shall heighten the flavor of the delight: we shall set the one in contrast with the other, and the brilliance of the diamond shall be the more clearly seen because of the black foil behind it. Come, my heart, cheer up! In a little while I shall be as glad as I am now gloomy. Jesus tells ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 26th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 26th “He purgeth it that it may bring forth more fruit” (John 15:2) One day we passed a garden. The gardener had finished his pruning, and the wounds of the knife and saw were beginning to heal, while the warm April sun was gently nourishing the stricken plant into fresh life and energy. We thought as we looked at that plant how cruel it would be to begin next week and cut it down again. It would bleed to death. Now, the gardener’s business is to revive and nourish into life. Its business is not to die, but to live. So, we thought, it is with the discipline of the soul. It, too, has its dying hour; but it must not be always dying. Rather reckon ourselves to be dead indeed unto sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord Everlasting. Breathe Thine own breath through all my mortal frame, Help me Thy resurrection life to claim, Which, ’mid all changes, still abides the same, And lead me in the way Everlasting. Give me the heavenly fore...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 26th

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 26th Tozer in the Morning The Danger of Modifying the Good News Our constant effort should be to reach as many persons as possible with the Christian message, and for that reason numbers are critically important. But our first responsibility is not to make converts but to uphold the honor of God in a world given over to the glory of fallen man. No matter how many persons we touch with the gospel we have failed unless, along with the message of invitation, we have boldly declared the exceeding sinfulness of man and the transcendent holiness of the Most High God. They who degrade or compromise the truth in order to reach larger numbers, dishonor God and deeply injure the souls of men. The temptation to modify the teachings of Christ with the hope that larger numbers may "accept" Him is cruelly strong in this day of speed, size, noise and crowds. But if we know what is good for us, we'll resist it with every power at o...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th November 2023 November 26 James 1:25-27 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does. 26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James is a very practical preacher. His letter tells us that if the Word does not change us, it is our own fault. He describes the Word as a mirror for our soul. We can look into it and see the ugliness that needs to be changed, or we can walk away and forget what we have seen. The man who continues to look (notice how he switches to hearing) and takes action on what he hears is going to be blessed. Do you want to be ble...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional November 25 James 1:13-15 13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Man tends to think that the temptation in front of him is from God. God never tempts us to sin. He does test us. There is a difference. To tempt is to entice to act contrary to God's character. God would never do such a thing. If a temptation is not from God, then we assume it is from the devil, just as the serpent tempted Eve. James says that temptation comes from our own evil desire. The devil acts only on the evil desire already in our heart. Don't look outward when you give in to temptation. Look within your own heart. There is an evil desire there that is not surrendered to the lordship of Chr...

Worthy Brief - November 24, 2023 Get drenched! Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. A few days ago, they had to shut down the Rainbow Bridge between the U.S. and Canada at Niagara Falls because of a vehicle explosion that occurred at the border crossing. If you've never visited Niagara Falls, you're in for a truly amazing experience! Years ago, during my first visit, I was awestruck by its enormity. It's mind-blowing to think that every second about one-hundred and fifty thousand tons of water plunges down. The sheer marvel of Niagara Falls attracts nearly 12 million tourists each year. The Lord could have used a lot less water. He could have made the Falls smaller, but instead, He created them as high as a twenty-story building -- b...

Today's Daily Encounter Friday, November 24, 2023 His Glorious Purpose "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."1 About 20 years ago, Pastor and Author Rick Warren asked the age-old question, "What On Earth Am I Here For?" and presented us with a book2 that led many of us into a 40-day journey to find the answer. No doubt that even after finding the answer, we may still ask ourselves this question, because we seek a more tangible answer. Would you believe that God actually designed us to ask that very question so that we would pause and look at the world around us and ponder on His magnificence reflected in all of creation? To be able to see His hand in the innumerable stars in the night sky and the majesty of the towering mountains on the horizon. To stand in awe at the vastness of the ocean that stays perfectly in its place. On our own we will never find the answers...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 24th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: November 24th “Pardon and Forgiveness ” - Psalms 103:9 He will chide sometimes, or He would not be a wise Father for such poor, erring children as we are. His chiding is very painful to those who are true, because they feel how sadly they deserve it and how wrong it is on their part to grieve Him. We know what this chiding means, and we bow before the LORD, mourning that we should cause Him to be angry with us. But what a comfort we find in these lines! "Not always" will He chide. If we repent and turn to Him with hearts broken for sin and broken from sin, He will smile upon us at once. It is no pleasure to Him to turn a frowning face toward those whom He loves with all His heart: it is His joy that our joy should be full. Come, let us seek His face. There is no reason for despair, nor even for despondency. Let us love a chiding God, and before long we shall sing, "Thine anger is turned away, and thou c...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 24th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: November 24th “I can do all things through Christ” (Philippians 4:13) A dear sister said one day: “I have so much work to do that I have not time to get strength to do it by waiting on the Lord.” Surely that was making bricks without straw, and even if it was the name of the Lord and the church, it was the devil’s bondage. God sends not His servants on their own charges; but “He is able to make all grace abound towards us, that we, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound unto every good work.” The old story of the chieftain, fleeing from his foes and almost overtaken, but stopping in the midst of his flight to get a shoe upon his horse that he might fly more successfully is a true type and lesson for Christian workers. The old Latin motto festina lente, “make haste slowly,” has a great lesson for us. The more work we have to do, the more frequently we have to drop our head upon our desk and wait a little for heavenly aid and love, and...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 24th

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: November 24th Tozer in the Morning Winter Experiences There is such a thing as a renaissance, a personal revival. The best illustration is the coming of the springtime on the farm. The snow will lay all winter long, and in some places you don"t see the ground until springtime. How utterly dead everything looks, but you know that life is still there. The trees are stark, but there is life in them. The roots in the ground are all quiet, but there is life down there. Just below the frost line are the worms, the bugs, the mice, the moles and the chipmunks. They are all there, and there is life down there. They are all waiting for something, listening for Mother Nature to say, "Stir up the gift of God that is in thee." Then comes the spring; the snow goes, and the blotches and patches begin to appear. The bobwhites begin to whistle their happy but monotonous song on the sunny side of the hill. The cattle begin to kick up their h...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 24th November 2023 November 24 James 1:5-7 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; What a wonderful promise we have in this passage! We are always in need of divine wisdom. James says that all we need to do is ask, but he also encourages us that God doles it out generously. God does not give it only to the perfect, holy person, but to whoever would ask. He is just waiting for us to ask. Wisdom that is from above will lead us in the way of righteousness. That is why you don't have to have attained some state of perfection to ask for it. It is the path to a righteous life. It is a revelation of the ways of God. Lest we think we can ask in any state of mind, James warns that...

Worthy Brief - November 23, 2023

Worthy Brief - November 23, 2023 The Lord has us covered! Psalm 100:4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Back in 1620, a bunch of English Pilgrims set sail on the Mayflower, looking to break free from religious persecution and find some religious freedom. These folks, known as the Pilgrims, were mostly Separatists who had split from the Church of England because of religious disagreements. They were originally aiming for Virginia, but thanks to some unexpected challenges, they got off course and ended up making landfall in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Life's full of twists and turns, right? Now, most of you know the story of an Indian named Squanto and his first Thanksgiving celebration with the Pilgrims. However, you might not know that over a decade before the Pilgrims ...
