Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: October 31st

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: October 31st “My grace is sufficient for thee; for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9) God allowed the crisis to close around Jacob on the night when he bowed at Peniel in supplication to bring him to the place where he could take hold of God as he never would have done; and from that narrow pass of peril Jacob came enlarged in his faith and knowledge of God, and in the power of a new and victorious life. He had to compel David, by a long and painful discipline of years, to learn the almighty power and faithfulness of his God, and to grow up into the established principles of faith and godliness, which were indispensable for his subsequent and glorious career as the king of Israel. Nothing but the extremities in which Paul was constantly placed could ever have taught him, and taught the church through him, the full meaning of the great promise he so learned to claim, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” And nothing but ou...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional: October 31st

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional: October 31st Morning “Through Him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” Acts 11:1-4 , Acts 11:18-30 Peter had baptized the Gentile household of Cornelius, and so novel an action could not pass unnoticed: the report soon reached the apostles at Jerusalem, and Peter was called upon to explain; he did so, and all were satisfied, and rejoiced in what the Lord had done. Acts 11:1-3 It would seem that a number of Jewish Christians attached an undue importance to circumcision, and made a kind of party in the church. The Holy Spirit does not conceal the faults and mistakes of good men; no histories and biographies are so impartial as those written by inspiration. Peter was no pope, for the common disciples called him to account; but he did not become angry, or claim to be infallible. Acts 11:4 See here a beautiful example of humility and patience. Peter had been directed by the Lord in what he did, and the act ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: October 31st

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: October 31st “Immortal Till Work Done ” - Psalms 118:17 A fair assurance this! It was no doubt based upon a promise, inwardly whispered in the psalmist’s heart, which he seized upon and enjoyed. Is my case like that of David? Am I depressed because the enemy affronts me? Are there multitudes against me and few on my side? Does unbelief bid me lie down and die in despair-a defeated, dishonored man? Do my enemies begin to dig my grave? What then? Shall I yield to the whisper of fear, and give up the battle, and with it give up all hope? Far from it. There is life in me yet: "I shall not die." Vigor will return and remove my weakness: "I shall live." The LORD lives, and I shall live also. My mouth shall again be opened: "I shall declare the works of Jehovah." Yes, and I shall speak of the present trouble as another instance of the wonder-working faithfulness and love of the LORD my God. Tho...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: October 31st

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: October 31st Tozer in the Morning The Divine Illuminator To know God in the scriptural meaning of the term is to enter into experience of Him. It never means to know about. It is not a knowledge mediated by the intellect, but an unmediated awareness experienced by the soul on a plane too high for the mind to reach. Where then is the place of the intellect in Christian experience? And why waste time thinking when we know beforehand that thought cannot bring us to the knowledge that is most of all to be desired, the knowledge of God? The answer is that the whole biblical revelation is addressed to the intellect and through the intellect reaches the will, the seat of the moral life; if the will responds in repentance and obedience, the Holy Spirit illuminates the penitent heart and reveals Christ, the image of God, to it. What began as an appeal to reason (Isaiah 1:18) ends in a spiritual experience wholly above reason Tozer in the Even...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 31st October 2025

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 31st October 2025 10/31 2 Timothy 2:22 22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. The passions of our youth can form patterns in the brain that we subconsciously follow after we mature. The things we thought would bring pleasure temporarily satisfied us, so our developing mind laid a default pathway to resolving dissatisfaction. After maturity is reached, we find ourselves thinking in the same way that we did when we were young, even though we have learned the consequences are not worth the temporary pleasure. Our verse today is telling us to flee from youthful passions. That means we can choose to do so. We are not "born that way," without recourse. We developed that way, but that does not mean we have to continue in that mode of behavior. A kleptomaniac can choose to stop stealing. If we are born-again believers, the power of the Holy Spirit is availa...

The Eighth Day: The Millennial Shabbat and Eternal Rest - Worthy Christian Devotions - Daily Devotional

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 30

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 30 Morning “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.” We have now to read a chapter peculiarly interesting to us Gentiles, because it shows how the middle wall of partition between Jews and Gentiles, which our Lord broke down by his death, was in due time practically removed by the calling of a Gentile household to the faith of Jesus. Before this time only Jews, proselytes, and Samaritans, all branches of the older family, had been converted, but now a Roman captain and his house were to be saved. Acts 10:1-23 Acts 10:4 Yet something more was wanted, and he must send for one who would tell him of Jesus, the Saviour. Acts 10:7 , Acts 10:8 The tanner’s trade was greatly despised, but this did not prejudice the centurion. Better to learn the way of God from one who lodged with a poor tanner than remain in ignorance. Meanwhile God was preparing Peter to comply with the centurion’s request. Acts 10:9-...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 30

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 30 “Thorough Cleansing ” - Ezekiel 36:25 What an exceeding joy is this! He who has purified us with the blood of Jesus will also cleanse us by the water of the Holy Spirit. God hath said it, and so it must be, "Ye shall be clean." LORD, we feel and mourn our uncleanness, and it is cheering to be assured by Thine own mouth that we shall be clean. Oh, that Thou wouldst make a speedy work of it! He will deliver us from our worst sins. The uprisings of unbelief and the deceitful lusts which war against the soul, the vile thoughts of pride, and the suggestions of Satan to blaspheme the sacred name-all these shall be so purged away as never to return. He will also cleanse us from all our idols, whether of gold or of clay: our impure loves and our excessive love of that which in itself is pure. That which we have idolized shall either be broken from us or we shall be broken off from it. It is God who sp...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 30

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 30 Tozer in the Morning THE HUMBLE PLACE I have met two classes of Christians; the proud who imagine they are humble, and the humble who are afraid they are proud! There should be another class: the self-forgetful men and women who leave the whole thing in the hands of Christ and refuse to waste any time trying to make themselves good. They will reach the goal far ahead of the rest. The truly humble person does not expect to find virtue in himself, and when he finds none he is not disappointed. He knows that any good deed he may do is the result of God's working within him. When this belief becomes so much a part of any man or woman that it operates as a kind of unconscious reflex, he or she is released from the burden of trying to live up to the opinion they hold of themselves. They can relax and count upon the Holy Spirit to fulfill the moral law within them. Let us never forget that the promises of God are made to the h...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 30

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 30 “Dwell deep” (Jeremiah 49:8) God’s presence blends with every other thought and consciousness, flowing sweetly and evenly through our business plans, our social converse our heart’s affections, our manual toil, our entire life, blending with all, consecrating all, and conscious through all, like the fragrance of a flower, or the presence of a friend consciously near, and yet not hindering in the least the most intense and constant preoccupation of the hands and brain. How beautiful the established habit of this unceasing communion and dependence, amid and above all thoughts and occupations! How lovely to see a dear old saint folding away his books at night and humbly saying, “Lord Jesus, things are still just the same between us,” and the falling asleep in His keeping. So let us be stayed upon Him. Let us grow into Him with all the root and fibers of our being. He will not get tired of our friendship. He will not want to put us off...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th October 2025 10/30 2 Timothy 2:13 13 . . . if we are faithless, he remains faithful- for he cannot deny himself. Paul shared with Timothy what Paul called a "trustworthy saying." It began with the truth that if we die with Jesus, we are certain to live with Jesus. It continues with the promise that if we endure, we will reign with Him. That is followed by a warning that if we deny Him, He will also deny us. The saying ends with the comforting verse for today. Those who place themselves in the death of Jesus, giving their lives to God as Jesus gave His in complete surrender, are sure to experience the power of resurrection now and on the day when Jesus returns for His own. However, we must endure if we would reign with Him. And if we deny Him, denying that He is our Savior and Lord, then He will deny us. That is to crucify again the Son of God and hold Him up to contempt (Hebrews 6:6). This saying must have been a strong deterrent from com...

A Bible Devotion Thursday, October 30, 2025

A Bible Devotion Thursday, October 30, 2025 Jesus Is Our Advocate 1 JOHN 2:1 NKJ 1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. The Greek word translated as Advocate in this verse is parakletos. It means someone called to one's aid; someone who pleads another's cause before a judge; a counsel for defense, a legal assistant, an advocate, and a helper. Many people have never fully grasped that Jesus Christ is on our side. Just like a defense lawyer, He pleads our case. We should not sin, because sin is harmful -- to us and to others. But even if we do sin, Jesus Christ is still on our side. He is not accusing us, but defending us on the basis of His sacrifice at Calvary. The devil is the one who accuses us, who brings up all our sins and shortcomings, and tells us we don't deserve anything good. REVELATION 12:10 NKJ 10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 29

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 29 “Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, He will give it you” (John 16:23) Two men go to the bank cashier, both holding in their hands a piece of paper. One is dressed in expensive style, and presents a gloved and jeweled hand; the other is a rough, unwashed workman. The first is rejected with a polite sentence, and the second receives a thousand dollars over the counter. What is the difference? The one presented a worthless name; the other handed in a note endorsed by the president of the bank. And so the most virtuous moralist will be turned away from the gates of mercy, and the vilest sinner welcomed in if he presents the name of Jesus. What shall we give to infinite purity and righteousness? Jesus! No other gift is worthy for God to receive. And He has given Him to us for this very end, to give back as our substitute and satisfaction. And He has “testified” of this gift what He has of no other, namely, that in Him He is well ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 29

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 29 Morning “Behold he prayeth.” Acts 9:1-22 Acts 9:1 , Acts 9:2 His very breath was threatening; all Judea was not a large enough hunting ground for him. What a rebel he was! What a saint he became! How mighty is divine grace! Acts 9:5 What surprise filled the soul of Saul when he perceived that the Nazarene whom he had hated was really divine. Little had he dreamed of persecuting the Son of God, he thought he was crushing out a troublesome imposture. O Lord, open the eyes of any other sincere bigot who may be persecuting thy cause without knowing it to be thine! Acts 9:6 He rises a changed man, he has seen the Lord and is conquered; he has become the willing servant of Jesus whom he persecuted. His hectoring has ended, his submission is complete. Acts 9:7-9 And no wonder. The light had blinded him, and the revelation from heaven so possessed him that he forgot everything else. Acts 9:10-14 Do we wonder th...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 29

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 29 “Maintain the Difference ” - Exodus 8:23 Pharaoh has a people, and the LORD has a people. These may dwell together and seem to fare alike, but there is a division between them, and the LORD will make it apparent. Not forever shall one event happen alike to all, but there shall be great difference between the men of the world and the people of Jehovah’s choice. This may happen in the time of judgments, when the LORD becomes the sanctuary of His saints. It is very conspicuous in the conversion of believers when their sin is put away, while unbelievers remain under condemnation. From that moment they become a distinct race, come under a new discipline, and enjoy new blessings. Their homes, henceforth, are free from the grievous swarms of evils which defile and torment the Egyptians. They are kept from the pollution of lust, the bite of care, the corruption of falsehood, and the cruel torment of hatred, whi...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 29

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 29 Tozer in the Morning MORE THAN PARDON It is a fact that the New Testament message of good news, "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures," embraces a great deal more than an offer of free pardon. Surely it is a message of pardon-and for that may God be praised-but it is also a message of repentance! It is a message of atonement-but it is also a message of temperance and righteousness and godliness in this present world! It tells us that we must accept a Savior-but it tells us also that we must deny ungodliness and worldly lusts! The gospel message includes the idea of amendment-of separation from the world, of cross-carrying and loyalty to the kingdom of God even unto death! These are all corollaries of the gospel and not the gospel itself; but they are part and parcel of the total message which we are commissioned to declare. No man has authority to divide the truth and preach only a part of it. To d...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th October 2025 10/29 2 Timothy 1:12 12 . . . which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me. The apostle Paul suffered because he was appointed to proclaim the message of salvation through faith in Jesus. By declaring the truth of the gospel, he was challenging all other systems of belief. That would mean rejection and ridicule from most people, but salvation for many. It is the same today. If we declare that Jesus is the only way to God, we will face rejection by many but also see a few find salvation and life eternal. The ridicule and scorn did not cause Paul to be ashamed, nor should it cause us to be ashamed. We know the One we believe. We know He is real, loving, and gracious. We know He can keep us from falling away when we face persecution. He enables us to stand firm by His power and not back down from the truth....

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 28 Morning “They that were scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the Word.” Acts 8:1-24 Acts 8:1 He took pleasure in the execution of Stephen, being zealously resolute to put down the church. Acts 8:2 It is not wrong to lament the death of holy men, for they are a great loss to the community. Acts 8:4 Driven yet further afield, they carried the gospel into other lands. The winds of persecution fan the fire of faith in the church, and carry the sparks of truth to a distance. The Devil destroys his own kingdom, while he thinks he is crushing the rising empire of Christ. Acts 8:5 Stephen is gone, but Philip comes forward; the church will not fail for want of men to bear her standard. Acts 8:6-8 Joy in forgiven sin, joy in healing mercy, joy in God’s gracious presence. See how Christians, though persecuted themselves, make others glad. Acts 8:13 But he did not savingly believe, as is clear from his conduc...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 28 “Sins of Ignorance ” - Revelation 22:3-4 Because of our ignorance we are not fully aware of our sins of ignorance. Yet we may be sure they are many, in the form both of commission and omission. We may be doing in all sincerity, as a service to God, that which He has never commanded and can never accept. The LORD knows these sins of ignorance every one. This may well alarm us, since in justice He will require these trespasses at our hand; but on the other hand, faith spies comfort in this fact, for the LORD will see to it that stains unseen by us shall yet be washed away. He sees the sin that He may cease to see it by casting it behind His back. Our great comfort is that Jesus, the true priest, has made atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel. That atonement secures the pardon of unknown sins. His precious blood cleanses us from all sin. Whether our eyes have seen it and wept over it...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 28

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 28 “Thou good servant, because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities” (Luke 19:17) It is not our success in service that counts, but our fidelity. Caleb and Joshua were faithful and God remembered it when the day of visitation came. It was a very difficult and unpopular position, and all of us are called in the crisis of our lives to stand alone and in this very matter of trusting God for victory over sin and our full inheritance in Christ we have all to be tested as they. Our brethren even in the church of God, while admitting in the abstract the loveliness and advantages of such an ideal life, tell us as they told Israel that it is impracticable and impossible, and many of us have to stand alone for years witnessing to the power of Christ to save His people to the uttermost and like Caleb following Him wholly, if alone. But this is the real victory of faith and the proof of our uncompromising ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 28

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 28 Tozer in the Morning Tests for Genuineness How can we tell whether or not a man or a religious demonstration is of God? The answer is easy to find, but it will take courage to follow the facts as God reveals them to us. The tests for spiritual genuineness are two: First, the leader must be a good man and full of the Holy Ghost. Christianity is nothing if not moral. No tricks of theology, no demonstrations of supernatural wonders, no evidences of blind devotion on the part of the public can decide whether or not God is in the man or the movement. Every servant of Christ must be pure of heart and holy of life. While sinless perfection is not likely to be found among even the best of men, still the leader to be trusted is the one who lives as near like Christ as possible and who knows how to repent in sorrow of heart when he sins against his Lord by any act or word. The man God honors will be humble, self-effacing, self-sa...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th October 2025 10/28 2 Timothy 1:9 9 . . . who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began. God saved us. It had nothing to do with our goodness. In fact, it was in spite of how bad we were. We may have tried to be good, but our works were all about looking good in the eyes of others. What an insult to the God who gave us everything we have so that we might glorify Him. Still, His mercy reached out to us and saved us. He called us to a holy calling. He delights in transforming the vile sinner into a holy instrument of His love. He is doing this for His own purpose. It is being done in His patient love. And as we begin to live for that purpose for which He designed us, we find joy and fulfillment. We no longer have to focus on ourselves. He becomes the One we seek to exalt and glorify. The amazing thing about this grace we have r...

Worthy Brief - October 27, 2025

Worthy Brief - October 27, 2025 The appointed day: the Feast of Bikkurim and the promise of resurrection! 1 Corinthians 15:20-24  But now Christ has risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruit of those who slept. 21  For since death is through man, the resurrection of the dead also is through a Man. 22  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive.  23  But each in his own order: Christ the first-fruit, and afterward they who are Christ's at His coming; 24  then is the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God, even the Father; when He makes to cease all rule and all authority and power. In the divine calendar of God’s appointed times, Bikkurim (Firstfruits) holds a mystery that stretches from the fields of Israel to the empty tomb in Jerusalem. This feast was celebrated “on the day after the Sabbath” following Passover (Leviticus 23:11) — what we now see as the eighth day, the day of new creation. While the nation of Israel ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 27

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 27 Morning “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:17-36 , Acts 5:38-42 Acts 5:17 , Acts 5:18 The Sadducees were the Broad Churchmen of their day, yet their liberal views did not prevent their persecuting the lovers of the truth. Men of no religion are frequently the greatest bigots in the world. Acts 5:24 Staggered but not converted, they went madly on with their persecution. Truly, when a sinner is set on mischief nothing will stop him but the grace of God. Acts 5:26-28 As in Æsop’s fable, the sheep of Jesus are charged by the wolf with troubling the water. Acts 5:29 , Acts 5:30 Peter does not flinch; he lays the great crime of Jesus death at their door. Acts 5:31-36 , Acts 5:38 , Acts 5:39 Bad but prudent men have frequently, for policy’s sake, advocated toleration, and so have been in the hands of God the means of delivering his people from persecution. We should admire the great Head of the chu...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 27

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 27 “His Service, Face, Name ” - Revelation 22:3-4 Three choice blessings will be ours in the gloryland. "His servants shall serve him." No other lords shall oppress us, no other service shall distress us. We shall serve Jesus always, perfectly, without weariness, and without error. This is heaven to a saint: in all things to serve the LORD Christ and to be owned by Him as His servant is our soul’s high ambition for eternity. "And they shall see his face." This makes the service delightful: indeed, it is the present reward of service. We shall know our LORD, for we shall see Him as He is. To see the face of Jesus is the utmost favor that the most faithful servant of the LORD can ask. What more could Moses ask than-"Let me see thy face? "And his name shall be in their foreheads." They gaze upon their LORD till His name is photographed upon their brows. They are acknowledged...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 27

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27) Cyrus, the King, was compelled to fulfill the vision of Jeremiah, by making a decree, the instant the prophecy had foretold, declaring that Jehovah had bidden him rebuild Jerusalem and invite her captives to return to their native home. So Jeremiah’s faith was vindicated and Jehovah’s prophecy gloriously fulfilled, as faith ever will be honored. Oh, for the faith, that in the dark present and the darker future, shall dare to subscribe the evidences and seal up the documents if need be, for the time of waiting, and then begin to testify to the certainty of its hope like the prophet of Anathoth! The word Anathoth has a beautiful meaning, “echoes.” So faith is the “echo” of God and God always gives the “echo” to faith, as He answers it back in glorious fulfillment. Oh, let our faith echo also the brave claim of the ancient prophet and ta...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 27

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 27 Tozer in the Morning Growing Numbers Do Not Guarantee Increasing Quality The question of numbers and their relation to success or failure in the work of the Lord is one that disturbs most Christians more than a little. . . . There are Christians, for instance, who dismiss the whole matter as being beneath them. . . .They prefer to sit around the Lord's Table in a select and tight little circle, admiring the deep things of God and, I very much fear, admiring themselves a wee bit also. This is a kind of Protestant monasticism without the cowl and the beads, for it seeks to preserve the faith of Christ from pollution by isolating it from the vulgar masses. Its motives may be commendable, but its methods are altogether unscriptural and its spirit completely out of mood with that of our Lord. The other and opposite school is the most vocal and has by far the largest following in gospel circles today. Its philosophy, if it ca...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th October 2025

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th October 2025 10/27 1 Timothy 6:17-18 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share. In some Christian circles, it is almost considered a shame to be rich; and in others, people follow the prosperity gospel, which teaches God promises us financial riches. Both are extremes of thought about earthly blessings. Wealth comes with the challenge to not trust in wealth but in God. It can also tend toward pride. Yet it can be a great blessing when the possessor humbly seeks God's will for the use of those funds. There is need all around us. The wealthy must use discernment to know how the Lord would have them distribute their wealth. This verse has two sobering comments about the nature of wealth. It is wealth in this present age. It h...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 26

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for October 26 “Go out into the highways and compel them to come in” (Luke 14:23) In the great parable in the fourteenth chapter of Luke, giving an account of the great supper an ancient lord prepared for his friends and neighbors, and to which, when they asked to be excused, he invited the halt and the lame from the city slums and the lepers from outside the gate, there is a significant picture and object lesson of the program of Christianity in this age. In the first place, it is obvious to every thoughtful mind that the Master is beginning to excuse the Gospel-hardened people of Christian countries. It is getting constantly more difficult to interest the unsaved of our own land, especially those that have been accustomed to hear the Gospel and the things of Christ. They have asked to be excused from the Gospel feast, and the Lord is excusing them. At the same time, two remarkable movements indicated in the parable are becoming more and more ma...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 26

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for October 26 Morning “We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:1-21 , Acts 4:23-30 After Peter and John had healed the lame man, they preached the gospel in the courts of the temple. Acts 4:3 , Acts 4:4 Quesnel says, “Truth may be oppressed, but it cannot be suppressed; the preacher may be bound, but not the word.” Acts 4:8-12 How Peter glories in the name of Jesus; how he brandishes it in the face of the foe! Almighty power lies in it, and blessed is he who has made it his trust. Acts 4:18-20 The sun might as easily leave off shining as good men desist from speaking of Jesus. Acts 4:29 , Acts 4:30 Thus psalms and prayers were presented to the Lord by the united church, and the work went on triumphantly. We, too, have equal cause for adoration, for the Lord of Hosts is with us, working for the glory of his Son. Evening “Judgment must begin at the house of God.” Acts 4:32-37 Acts 4:32 There...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 26

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for October 26 Tozer in the Morning Gazing Upon Christ We have all seen the person who begins all arguments with the unassailable proposition that he is right and reasons from there. We have received a few letters which purported to settle all questions, not by bringing forth reasons, but by establishing the writer's qualifications to pronounce judgment. "How dare you question my actions," he says. "I am the foremost leader in my field. I have written this many books and spoken to this many people over a long period of this many years." Ergo, I am not to be trifled with, nor are my opinions to be questioned. If I do it, it is right. Ispe dixit. He has said it. This kind of thing would be comical if it were not tragic. We mention it only to point up the truth under present consideration and to show by horrible example what long continued self-assurance will do to a human character. Let the public accept a man as unu...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 26

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for October 26 “Because of Us ” - Matthew 24:22 For the sake of His elect the LORD withholds many judgments and shortens others. In great tribulations the fire would devour all were it not that Out of regard to His elect the LORD damps the flame. Thus, while He saves His elect for the sake of Jesus, He also preserves the race for the sake of His chosen. What an honor is thus put upon saints! How diligently they ought to use their influence with their LORD! He will hear their prayers for sinners and bless their efforts for their salvation. He blesses believers that they may be a blessing to those who are in unbelief. Many a sinner lives because of the prayers of a mother, or wife, or daughter to whom the LORD has respect. Have we used aright the singular power with which the LORD entrusts us? Do we pray for our country, for other lands, and for the age? Do we, in times of war, famine, pestilence, stand out as intercess...
