Worthy Brief - February 28, 2025

Worthy Brief - February 28, 2025 Take a break -- enjoy your Shabbat rest! Psalms 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! Leonardo da Vinci, who excelled at many things -- as a painter, sculptor, poet, architect, engineer, city planner, scientist, inventor, anatomist, military genius, and philosopher said a wise thing: "Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer, since to remain constantly at work will cause you to lose power of judgment...Go some distance away because then the work appears smaller, and more of it can be taken in at a glance, and lack of harmony or proportion is more readily seen." Have you found this to be the truth? We have! Any time we step back from a situation or project and take some time away, we undoubtedly gain new perspective and insight about it. Now, I know not all of us can take a week-long vacation at a l...

This Day's Verse 28th February 2025

This Day's Verse 28th February 2025 “’Be strong, all you people still left in the land. And now get to work, for I am with you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. My Spirit remains among you, just as I promised when you came out of Egypt. So do not be afraid.’” Haggai 2:4-5 The New Living Translation https://thisdaysthought.org/

This Day's Thought 28th February 2025 The best of men are still sinners. If we take pride in the “greats” of this world, we have a warped view of God’s values. He chooses the base, the lowly, and the unknown. Erwin W. Lutzer https://thisdaysthought.org/

True Vine Devotional for February 28

True Vine Devotional for February 28 “ No Longer Do I Call You Servants; for the Servant Knoweth Not What His Lord Doeth: But I Have Called You Friends; for All Things That I Heard From My Father, I Have Made Known Unto ” - John 15:15 The highest proof of true friendship, and one great source of its blessedness, is the intimacy that holds nothing back, and admits the friend to share our inmost secrets. It is a blessed thing to be Christ’s servant; His redeemed ones delight to call themselves His slaves. Christ had often spoken of the disciples as His servants. In His great love our Lord now says: “No longer do I call you servants”; with the coming of the Holy Spirit a new era was to be inaugurated. “The servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth”—he has to obey without being consulted or admitted into the secret of all his master’s plans. “But, I have called you friends, for all things I heard from my Father I have made known unto you.” Christ’s friends share with Him in all the secr...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 28 Morning “We walk by faith, not by sight.” Numbers 13:1 , Numbers 13:2 , Numbers 13:17-21 , Numbers 13:23-33 Numbers 13:1 , Numbers 13:2 Because of the hardness of the people’s hearts, the Lord permitted Moses to send spies. It had been far better for them to have believed the Word of the Lord, and to have followed the pillar of cloud. How foolish for them to have the land spied out which the Lord had long before spied out for them Numbers 13:1 , Numbers 13:2 The best men should always be the most ready for works of daring and self-sacrifice. He is noblest in the church who is readiest to be the servant of all. Numbers 13:17-23 They brought home conclusive evidence of the fertility of the country. This cluster of Eshcol is typical of those holy comforts which saints enjoy even in this world, which are earnests of the joys hereafter. Numbers 13:25 Every day of spying cost Israel a year of wandering. Walk...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 28

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 28 “Count it all joy” (James 1:2) We do not always feel joyful, but we are to count it all joy. The word “reckon” is one of the key-words of Scripture. It is the same word used about our being dead. We do not feel dead. We are painfully conscious of something that would gladly return to life. But we are to treat ourselves as dead, and neither fear nor obey the old nature. So we are to reckon the thing that comes as a blessing. We are determined to rejoice, to say, “My heart is fixed, O God, I will sing and give praise.” This rejoicing, by faith, will soon become a habit, and will ever bring speedily the spirit of gladness and the spontaneous overflow of praise. Then, “although the fig-tree may wither and no fruit appear in the vines, the labor of the olive fail and the fields yield no increase, the herd be cut off from the stall, and the cattle from the field, yet we will rejoice in the Lord, and joy in the God of our salvation.” “Pe...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 28

Streams in the Desert  Devotional for February 28 "Let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually" (Hebrews 13:15). A city missionary, stumbling through the dirt of a dark entry, heard a voice say, "Who’s there, Honey?" Striking a match, he caught a vision of earthly want and suffering, of saintly trust and peace, "cut in ebony"-- calm, appealing eyes set amid the wrinkles of a pinched, black face that lay on a tattered bed. It was a bitter night in February, and she had no fire, no fuel, no light. She had had no supper, no dinner, no breakfast. She seemed to have nothing at all but rheumatism and faith in God. One could not well be more completely exiled from all pleasantness of circumstances, yet the favorite song of this old creature ran: "Nobody knows de trouble I see, Nobody knows but Jesus; Nobody knows de trouble I see-- Sing Glory Hallelu! "Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down, Sometimes I’m level on the groun’’, Sometimes the g...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 28

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 28 Tozer in the Morning PLAYING AT RELIGION When our faith becomes obedience to our Savior, then it is true faith, indeed! The difficulty we modem Christians face is not misunderstanding the Bible, but persuading our untamed hearts to accept its plain instruction. Our problem is to get the consent of our world-loving minds to make Jesus Lord in fact, as well as in word. For it is one thing to say, "Lord, Lord," and quite another thing to obey the Lord's commandments. We may sing "Crown Him Lord of all," and rejoice in the tones of the loud organ and the deep melody in harmonious voices, but still we have done nothing until we have left the world and set our faces toward the City of God in hard practical reality. The world's spirit is strong and it can play at religion with every appearance of sincerity. It can have fits of conscience (particularly during Lent)! It will contribute to charitable caus...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 28 “Real Estate in Heaven ” - Hebrews 10:34 This is well. Our substance here is very unsubstantial; there is no substance in it. But God has given us a promise of real estate in the gloryland, and that promise comes to our hearts with such full assurance of its certainty that we know in ourselves that we have an enduring substance there. Yes, "we have" it even now. They say, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," but we have our bird in the bush and in the hand, too. Heaven is even now our own. We have the title deed of it, we have the earnest of it, we have the firstfruits of it. We have heaven in price, in promise, and in principle; this we know not only by the hearing of the ear but "in ourselves." Should not the thought of the better substance on the other side of Jordan reconcile us to present losses? Our spending money we may lose, but our treasure is safe. We h...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th February 2025

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th February 2025 2/28 Luke 6:40 40 "A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher." This saying was the understanding of most rabbis and disciples of the first century. The goal of every disciple was to be as much like his teacher as possible, but with the understanding that the disciple would not surpass the teacher. The disciples of that day would each follow his rabbi everywhere, memorizing the blessings he spoke and the prayers he prayed. They would each learn his response to certain questions and imitate his life in every way while serving him. However, if the teacher is ignorant of spiritual truth, his followers will be as well. If the teacher has blind spots or prejudices, he will most likely pass them on to his followers. They will be like their teachers. That is why we should make every effort to see our own shortcomings and ask for God to help us to change. This saying is most a...

Worthy Brief - February 27, 2025

Worthy Brief - February 27, 2025 It's time to light the fire! 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. There's an interesting story about the great English actor, Macready. A respected preacher once asked him, "I wish you would explain something to me." "Well, what is it? I don't know that I can explain anything to a preacher." The preacher was puzzled. "What is the reason for the difference between you and me? You are appearing before crowds night after night with fiction, and the crowds follow you wherever you go. I am preaching the essential and unchangeable truth, and I am not getting any crowd at all!" Macready had a sharp reply: "This is quite simple. I can tell you the difference between us. I present my fiction as though it were truth; you present y...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 27

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 27 “Unstaggering Trustfulness ” - Psalms 112:7 Suspense is dreadful. When we have no news from home, we are apt to grow anxious, and we cannot be persuaded that "no news is good news." Faith is the cure for this condition of sadness; the LORD by His Spirit settles the mind in holy serenity, and all fear is gone as to the future as well as the present. The fixedness of heart spoken of by the psalmist is to be diligently sought after. It is not believing this or that promise of the LORD, but the general condition of unstaggering trustfulness in our God, the confidence which we have in Him that He will neither do us ill Himself nor suffer anyone else to harm us. This constant confidence meets the unknown as well as the known of life. Let the morrow be what it may, our God is the God of tomorrow. Whatever events may have happened, which to us are unknown, our Jehovah is God of the unknown as well as...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 27

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 27 Morning “Quench not the Spirit.” Numbers 11:24-34 Numbers 11:24 , Numbers 11:25 See what the Lord can do, and let it encourage us to pray the Lord of the harvest to send forth labourers into his harvest. Many a Moses is burdened for want of helpers, but the Lord can send him all the assistance he needs. Numbers 11:26 Perhaps Moses and the people had not looked for prophetic gifts to follow the gift of the Spirit, but only the power to govern; hence the excitement when two of the elders began to preach in parts of the camp where the prophesying at the tabernacle had not yet been made known. Numbers 11:27 , Numbers 11:28 Jealousy for his master’s honour moved Joshua to slay the irregular ministry of Eldad and Medad; and still there are many who are zealous to put down those who presume to prophesy, because they are “men authorised by God alone,” as if that were not authority enough. Numbers 11:29 Moses w...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 27

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 27 "And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day" (Genesis 32:24). Left alone! What different sensations those words conjure up to each of us. To some they spell loneliness and desolation, to others rest and quiet. To be left alone without God, would be too awful for words, but to be left alone with Him is a foretaste of Heaven! If His followers spent more time alone with Him, we should have spiritual giants again. The Master set us an example. Note how often He went to be alone with God; and He had a mighty purpose behind the command, "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray." The greatest miracles of Elijah and Elisha took place when they were alone with God. It was alone with God that Jacob became a prince; and just there that we, too, may become princes-- "men (aye, and women too!) wondered at" (Zechariah 3:8). Joshua was...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 27

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 27 “Stablish, strengthen, settle you” (1 Peter 5:10) In taking Christ in any new relationship, we must first have sufficient intellectual light to satisfy our mind that we are entitled to stand in this relationship. The shadow of a question here will wreck our confidence. Then, having seen this, we must make the venture, the committal, the choice, and take the place just as definitely as the tree is planted in the soil, or the bride gives herself away at the marriage altar. It must be once for all, without reserve, without recall. Then there is a season of establishing, settling and testing, during which we must stay put until the new relationship gets so fixed as to become a permanent habit. It is just the same as when the surgeon sets the broken arm. He puts it in splints to keep it from vibration. So God has His spiritual splints that He wants to put upon His children and keep them quiet and unmoved until they pass the first stage...

True Vine Devotional for February 27

True Vine Devotional for February 27 “ Ye Are My Friends, if Ye Do the Things Which I Command You ” - John 15:14 Our Lord has said what He gave as proof of His friendship: He gave His life for us. He now tells us what our part is to be—to do the things which He commands. He gave His life to secure a place for His love in our hearts to rule us; the response His love calls us to, and empowers us for, is that we do what He commands us. As we know the dying love, we shall joyfully obey its commands. As we obey the commands, we shall know the love more fully. Christ had already said: “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love.” He counts it needful to repeat the truth again: the one proof of our faith in His love, the one way to abide in it, the one mark of being true branches is—to do the things which He commands us. He began with absolute surrender of His life for us. He can ask nothing less from us. This alone is a life in His friendship. This truth, of the imperative ne...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 27

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 27 Tozer in the Morning Do We Follow in Their Steps? Read history and see how the covenanters stood and died rather than give up to the enemy. Are we satisfied to be degenerate sons of great fathers? Consider A. B. Simpson who walked the shores of the Atlantic Ocean with cardboard in the soles of his shoes because he did not have money to buy new ones. He prayed and groaned in spirit and cried to God for people of all nations who had not heard the gospel. He prayed "Oh God, I believe Jesus Christ thy Son is the same yesterday, today and forever." We are his descendants, but we ought to spend a day in sackcloth and ashes. At 36, Simpson was a Presbyterian preacher so sick that he said, "I feel I could fall into the grave when I have a funeral." He could not preach for months at a time because of his sickness. He went to a little camp meeting in the woods and heard a quartet sing, "No man can work like ...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th February 2025

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th February 2025 2/27 Luke 6:20 20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." Luke's version of the Beatitudes differs from Matthew's in the wording and the addition of woes. Some people claim this is a contradiction, but having preached for a number of years, I can testify that when I preach on a subject more than once, the sermon is never the same each time. Surely Jesus delivered His Beatitude message more than once. These blessings describe the upside-down world of the kingdom of God. The expressions show us how God sees circumstances as opposed to how man sees them. Luke's account emphasizes the physical condition as opposed to Matthew's account, which emphasizes the spiritual condition. Matthew tells us that Jesus said the poor in spirit are blessed, but Luke tells us Jesus said the poor are blessed. Of course, the poor can include poor in spiri...

Worthy Brief - February 26, 2025

Worthy Brief - February 26, 2025 Build wisely! 1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. An elderly carpenter was looking towards retirement. His boss, who had come to depend on him for quality work, asked for one last favor—a final house to build before he hung up his hammer. The carpenter said yes, but his heart wasn’t really in it. He cut corners, used second-rate materials, and just didn’t put his usual effort into the construction. When the house was finished, the boss came by and handed the carpenter the keys, saying, “This is your house, my gift to you for years of hard work.” The carpenter was floored. If he’d known he was building his own home, he would've definitely made sure everything was top-notch. Now, he was stuck with a home that wasn’t built to last. We should think of ourselves as carpenters, and our lives he...

True Vine Devotional for February 26

True Vine Devotional for February 26 “ Greater Love Hath No Man Than This, That a Man Lay Down His Life for His Friends ” - John 15:13 In the three following verses our Lord speaks of His relation to His disciples under a new aspect—that of friendship. He point us to the love in which it on His side has its origin (John 15:13): to the obedience on our part by which it is maintained (John 15:14); and then to the holy intimacy to which it leads (John 15:15). Our relation to Christ is one of love. In speaking of this previously, He showed us what His love was in its heavenly glory; the same love with which the Father had loved Him. Here we have it in its earthly manifestation—lay down His life for us. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” Christ does indeed long to have us know that the secret root and strength of all He is and does for us as the Vine is love. As we learn to believe this, we shall feel that here is something which we not ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 26

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 26 Tozer in the Morning LET US TAKE IT PERSONALLY What a difference it makes when we humans cease being general and become pointed and personal in our approach to God! We then come to see that all that God did was for each of us. It was for me that holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. For me Christ died-and when He arose on the third day it was for me. When the promised Holy Spirit came it was to continue in me the work He had been doing for me, since the morning of the Creation! So, I have every right to claim all of the riches of the Godhead in mercy given. What a blessed thought-that an infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children! He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others. All that He is and all that He has done is for us and for all who share the common salvation. Tozer in the Evening Dross Rem...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 26

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 26 “Truth Established ” - Proverbs 12:19 Truth wears well. Time tests it, but it right well endures the trial. R; then, I have spoken the truth and have for the present to suffer for it, I must be content to wait. If also I believe the truth of God and endeavor to declare it, I may meet with much opposition, but I need not fear, for ultimately the truth must prevail. What a poor thing is the temporary triumph of falsehood! "A lying lip is but for a moment!" It is a mere gourd which comes up in a night and perishes in a night; and the greater its development the more manifest its decay. On the other hand, how worthy of an immortal being is the avowal and defense of that truth which can never change; the everlasting gospel, which is established in the immutable truth of an unchanging God! An old proverb saith, "He that speaks truth shames the devil." Assuredly he that speaks the truth of...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 26

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 26 Morning “Let the righteous be glad.” Numbers 10:29-36 Numbers 10:29 We should talk to our friends and kinsfolk of the advantages which arise out of connection with the people of God; it may be they will be led to cast in their lot with us. Numbers 10:30 , Numbers 10:31 Those who are converted to the faith often become of great service to the church, and this should urge us the more eagerly to seek their conversion. Numbers 10:32 Thus the compact was made to share and share alike. This was true brotherhood. Believers know that the Lord dealeth with all his servants as he is wont to do unto those who fear his name. He feeds them with the same bread of life, clothes them with the same righteousness, shelters them beneath the same providential care, and brings them by the same grace to the same glory. Those who truly join with us in Christ’s church shall enjoy all the privileges with which we are enriched....

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 26

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 26 “Make you perfect in every good work” (Hebrews 13:21) In that beautiful prayer at the close of the Epistle to the Hebrews, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead, our Lord Jesus Christ, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will,” the phrase, “make you perfect in every good work,” literally means, it is said, “adjust you in every good work.” It is a great thing to be adjusted, adjusted to our surroundings and circumstances rather than trying to have them adjusted to us, adjusted to the people we are thrown with, adjusted to the work God has for us, and not trying to get God to help us to do our work; adjusted to do the very will and plan of God for us in our whole life. This is the secret of rest, power and freedom in our life-work. “Oh, fill me with Thy fulness, Lord. Until my very heart o’erflow In kindling thought and glowi...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 26

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 26 "My grace is sufficient for thee" (2 Corinthians 12:9). The other evening I was riding home after a heavy day’s work. I felt very wearied, and sore depressed, when swiftly, and suddenly as a lightning flash, that text came to me, "My grace is sufficient for thee." I reached home and looked it up in the original, and at last it came to me in this way, "MY grace is sufficient for thee"; and I said, "I should think it is, Lord," and burst out laughing. I never fully understood what the holy laughter of Abraham was until then. It seemed to make unbelief so absurd. It was as though some little fish, being very thirsty, was troubled about drinking the river dry, and Father Thames said, "Drink away, little fish, my stream is sufficient for thee." Or, it seemed after the seven years of plenty, a mouse feared it might die of famine; and Joseph might say, "Cheer up, little mouse, my granaries...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th February 2025

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th February 2025 2/26 Luke 5:8 8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord." One day when Jesus was teaching on the shore of Galilee, the crowds were pressing against Him. Jesus climbed into Peter's boat and asked that Peter move it a little ways from the shore. When Jesus finished teaching, He asked Peter to go fishing. Peter had just finished washing his nets after a long night of fishing and catching nothing. Tilapia galilaea, now called "Peter's fish," would come to the surface at night. Nevertheless, Peter cast off and gave it a try. When they cast their nets, they were filled to the point of almost breaking and they had to call to their partners to help with the catch. Both boats were filled to the point of almost sinking. Our verse today is Peter's response. Peter had already met Jesus and heard it said that He was the Messiah (John 1:41)...

This Day's Thought 25th February 2025

This Day's Thought 25th February 2025 Adversity is not simply a tool. It is God’s most effective tool for the advancement of our spiritual lives. The circumstances and events that we see as setbacks are oftentimes the very things that launch us into periods of intense spiritual growth. Once we begin to understand this, and accept it as a spiritual fact of life, adversity becomes easier to bear. Charles Stanley https://thisdaysthought.org/

The Way by Kevin Pauley

The Way by Kevin Pauley Skinny Foxes Date Posted: February 25, 2025 He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be stripped of everything when I die. The Lord gave me everything I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” Job 1:21 Once, a fox discovered a vineyard. It was completely enclosed by a wall, except for one small hole. When the fox tried to enter the hole, he discovered he could not. It was too small. So he decided to fast for three days until he became thin enough to enter through the hole. He began fasting and, after three days, was scrawny enough to make it. He entered the hole and found to his delight that the vineyard was a virtual paradise. He ate and ate until he became sleek and fat. But when he wanted to leave, the fox couldn’t get through the hole. So he had to fast again until he was thin enough to get out. It took three days before he could make it. He finally exited the vineyard just as thin, scrawny and hungry as he had...

True Vine Devotional for February 25

True Vine Devotional for February 25 “ This is My Commandment, That Ye Love One Another, Even as I Have Loved You ” - John 15:12 This is the second time our Lord uses the expression—Even as I. The first time it was of His relation to the Father, keeping His commandments, and abiding in His love. Even so we are to keep Christ’s commandments, and abide in His love. The second time He speaks of His relation to us as the rule of our love to our brethren: “Love one another, as I have loved you.” In each case His disposition and conduct is to be the law for ours. It is again the truth we have more than once insisted on—perfect likeness between the Vine and the branch. Even as I—But is it not a vain thing to imagine that we can keep His commandments, and love the brethren, even as He kept His Father’s, and as He loved us? And must not the attempt end in failure and discouragement? Undoubtedly, if we seek to carry out the injunction in our strength, or without a full apprehension of the t...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 25

Streams in the Desert Devotional for February 25 "Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you" (Joshua 1:3). Beside the literal ground, unoccupied for Christ, there is the unclaimed, untrodden territory of Divine promises. What did God say to Joshua? "Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you," and then He draws the outlines of the Land of Promise-- all theirs on one condition: that they shall march through the length and breadth of it, and measure it off with their own feet. They never did that to more than one-third of the property, and consequently they never had more than one-third; they had just what they measured off, and no more. In 2 Peter, we read of the "land of promise" that is opened up to us, and it is God’s will that we should, as it were, measure off that territory by the feet of obedient faith and believing obedience, thus claiming and appropriating it for ou...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 25

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for February 25 “I am the vine, ye are the branches” (John 15:5) How can I take Christ as my Sanctifier, or Healer? is a question that we are constantly asked. It is necessary first of all that we get into the posture of faith. This has to be done by a definite and voluntary act, and then maintained by a uniform habit. It is just the same as the planting of a tree. You must put it in the soil by a definite act, and then you must let it stay put and remain settled in the ground until the little roots have time to fix themselves and begin to draw the sustenance from the soil. There are two stages, the definite planting and then the habitual absorbing of moisture and nourishment from the ground. The root fibers must rest until they reach out their spongy pores and drink in the nutriment of the earth. After the habit is established, then by a certain uniform law, the plant draws its life from the ground without an effort, and it is just as natural fo...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 25

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for February 25 “Set Apart ” - Isaiah 61:6 This literal promise to Israel belongs spiritually to the seed after the Spirit, namely, to all believers. If we live up to our privileges, we shall live unto God so clearly and distinctly that men shall see that we are set apart for holy service and shall name us the priests of the LORD. We may work or trade as others do, and yet we may be solely and wholly the ministering servants of God. Our one occupation shall be to present the perpetual sacrifice of prayer, and praise, and testimony, and self-consecration to the living God by Jesus Christ. This being our one aim, we may leave distracting concerns to those who have no higher calling. "Let the dead bury their dead." It is written, "Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vine-dressers," They may manage politics, puzzle out financial problems,...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 25

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for February 25 Morning “Hallowed be thy name.” We shall now read a brief incident, very terrible to think upon, and full of solemn teaching to us all. May the Holy Spirit enable us to profit by it. Leviticus 24:10-16 , Leviticus 24:23 , Leviticus 24:10 Among the people of God there are some who are not altogether of Israel, they are in heart Egyptians or lovers of sin, and yet they are near of kin to true believers, and mingle freely in their gatherings. Leviticus 24:11 Observe that the words ”of the Lord” are not in the original. He blasphemed the name. Now there is given among us a name which is above every name, a name at which every knee shall bow, and woe shall be unto the man who shall lightly esteem the name of Jesus. Leviticus 24:11 Bad men shame their mothers. May we never do that. Leviticus 24:12 It is not for us to judge unbelievers except as we have the Lord’s warrant for it from his own mouth. Utterances...
