 Today's Daily Encounter Tuesday, November 26, 2024

When Our Faith Weakens

Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”1

If we believe that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He has promised, why do we hesitate in our prayers? Instead of having a bold faith, we turn to God with the faint hope that He will hear us and answer our requests.

Perhaps one reason we are so prone to doubt is that we fail to discern God working in our circumstances. We ask, and it seems as if nothing has happened. But the Lord sees the past, present, and future, and knows the right time for each response. His invisible hand is already working on our behalf: fixing situations, opening hearts, and preparing us to receive what He wants to give us.

Sometimes our prayers are often accompanied by expectations of how He will act, so when He does not intervene according to the method we anticipate, doubt can arise. But knowing God and trusting in His perfect ways will give us stability as we await His answer.

To overcome doubts, spend time in the Word, then you will begin to understand what He wants to accomplish in your life and how He does it.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask your forgiveness for the times my faith has wavered and weakened. But I also want to thank You that You understand me and always receive me with Your loving arms. Thank You that I can go to Your Word to help me know Your loving plan for my life. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
