The Valleys in Our Lives
"Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."1
We all, at some point in life, face trials, uncertainty, doubts, anxiety and fear. The valleys of life are inevitable and unpredictable, we are all going to cross them at one point or another. The biggest mistake we can make is trying to run away from them.
However, the key to overcoming them is to keep the right perspective on what Jesus can do in us during those stages.
In these seasons of many ups and downs, when we are challenged, we can experience something we would never feel otherwise: Christ Jesus as a refuge.
In addition, we can see that the apostle Paul in the letter to the Philippians 4:11-13 exposes the key to traversing the valleys of life and learning to be content in Jesus, who strengthened him even in the harshest storms.
Long before the apostle mentioned these words, King David also expressed how he trusted and rested in God in the midst of those valleys of shadow and death. Psalm 23:4 "Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me."
The secret of life is not in how to avoid storms, but in how to rest in the midst of them, and our rest is in Christ Jesus.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that in the midst of the storms, I can rest in You. You give peace to my soul in the midst of chaos and uncertainty. Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are my peace and my contentment. In Jesus' name, Amen.
1. Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT).
