Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 30th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 30th “Back, Then Forward ” - Judges 6:14 Notwithstanding our sins, the LORD is still faithful in His love to us. He looks back. See how He remembers those early days of ours when He took us into covenant with Himself, and we gave ourselves over to Him. Happy days those! The LORD does not twit us with them and charge us with being insincere. No, He looks rather to His covenant with us than to our covenant with Him. There was no hypocrisy in that sacred compact, on His part, at any rate. How gracious is the LORD thus to look back in love! He looks forward also. He is resolved that the covenant shall not fail. If me do not stand to it, He does. He solemnly declares, "I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant." He has no mind to draw back from His promises. Blessed be His name, He sees the sacred seal, "the blood of the everlasting covenant," and He remembers our Surety, in whom He ratifi...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 30th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 30th “Therefore, choose” (Deuteronomy 30:19) Men are choosing every day the spiritual or earthly. And as we choose we are taking our place unconsciously with the friends of Christ, or the world. It is not merely what ye say, it is what we prefer. When Solomon made his great choice at Gibeon, God said to him, “Because this was in thine heart to ask wisdom, therefore will I give it unto thee, and all else besides that thou didst not choose.” It was not merely that he said it because it was right to say, and would please God if he said it. But it was the thing his heart preferred, and God saw it in his heart and gave it to him with all besides that he had not chosen. What are we choosing, beloved? It is our choice that settles our destiny. It is not how we feel, but how we purpose. Have we chosen the good part? Have we said, “Whatever else I am or have, let me be God’s child, let me have His favor and blessing, let me please Him?” Or have we said, ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 30

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 30 Tozer in the Morning LET THE DAY DAWN The Bible tells us that when a person becomes a Christian, it is as though the sun has come up and the day has dawned. Then his experience along the path should be like the glowing light which shineth more and more unto the perfect day! This brings us to a question: if all Christians are alike in standing and state, why did Jesus point out three distinctions in the Christian life-"some thirty, some sixty and some a hundred fold"? If we are all alike and have all "arrived" at the same place and state, why did the Apostle Paul tell the Philippian Christians "I have suffered the loss of all things, that I may know Him and if by any means, I might attain unto that superior resurrection"? I am of the opinion that we cannot experience that which we have not believed. I still think we must instruct and urge men and women, toiling along in average and common Christian ...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 20th June 2024 30 Job 5:17-18 17 "Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. 18 For he wounds, but he binds up; he shatters, but his hands heal. Although Job's friends were wrong in their assumptions, there is truth in much of what they spoke. The first friend, Eliphaz, said that all men have sinned. He knew God was just. In our verses today we see that he knew God's discipline was a blessing. The hope of God's restoration came to fruition in Job. However, he did not understand that in some cases a person's afflictions are for purposes unseen. Eliphaz was wise, but he lacked discernment. We are blessed when God reproves us. It is often to turn us back to the right path. It can be God's natural consequences or His supernatural intervention, but either way, we are being turned from our destructive ways or, as in Job's case, brought into a deeper relationship with our Crea...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 29th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 29th “Invitation to Pray ” - Judges 6:14 God encourages us to pray. They tell us that prayer is a pious exercise which has no influence except upon the mind engaged in it. We know better. Our experience gives the lie a thousand times over to this infidel assertion. Here Jehovah, the living God, distinctly promises to answer the prayer of His servant. Let us call upon Him again and admit no doubt upon the question of His hearing us and answering us. He that made the ear, shall He not hear? He that gave parents a love to their children, will He not listen to the cries of His own sons and daughters! God will answer His pleading people in their anguish. He has wonders in store for them. What they have never seen, heard of, or dreamed of, He will do for them. He will invent new blessings if needful. He will ransack sea and land to feed them: He will send every angel out of heaven to succor them if their distress requi...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 29th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 29th “He dwelleth with you and shall be in you” (John 14:17) Do not fail to mark these two stages in Christian life. The one is the Spirit’s work in us, the other is the Spirit’s personal coming to abide within us. All true Christians know the first, but few, it is to be feared, understand and receive the second. There is a great difference between my building a house and my going to reside in that house and make it my home. And there is a great difference between the Holy Spirit’s work in regenerating a soul—the building of a house, and His coming to reside, abide and control in our innermost spirit and our whole life and being. Have we received Him Himself not as our Guest, but as the Owner, Proprietor and Keeper of the temple He has built to be “an habitation of God through the Spirit”? This is my wonderful story, Christ to my heart has come, Jesus the King of glory, Finds in my heart a home. I am so glad I received Him, Jesus, my heart’s dea...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 29

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 29 Tozer in the Morning Make Time to Pray "Am I faithful in prayer?" Ask yourself that. "Well, I'm busy," you say. Yes, you are busy. So was the Lord Jesus. So was Martin Luther. Luther said, "In the morning I have so much work to do that I am going to have to pray longer today." Are you faithful in prayer, and do you meditate on the Word? How much of Scripture have you read lately? Have you read it wth meditation and tenderness? These are a few questions. You can answer them evasively and the snow lies there. Or you can answer them honestly and see the springtime come to your heart. Put yourself in the hands of the One who loves you infinitely. If you have failed Him, you will have to admit that there is a rut or snow on the meadow. Tell Him so--don't hide it. He will not turn His back in anger and say, "You disappoined me and betrayed me." There is a balm in Gilead, plenty of it. T...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th June 2024 6/29 Job 2:13 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great. When calamity struck Job, his three closest friends came to console him. At first they did the right thing; except for their weeping with him, they were silent (Job 13:5). What can you say to a person whose children were killed? Of all Job's losses, that had to be the most painful. His physical affliction only added to it. Then they began to offer suggestions. They started advising him to confess his hidden sin. They did not know that this was a heavenly battle between Satan and God. None of them guessed that what was going on had its source in the heavenly realm. Silence and weeping with him would have been their best gift, but their advice only added to his pain. He had already searched his heart. He knew he wasn't perfect, but he also knew this was not punishment from t...

Daily Christian Quote 29th June 2024

Daily Christian Quote 29th June 2024 Glen Argan June 29, 2024 If I have the eyes of faith, I will look for the action of the Holy Spirit in every event which stirs a positive or negative reaction in me. I will ask how God is trying to move my life through this event. Perhaps the event will stir me to gratitude, perhaps even to yearn for a fuller union with God in heaven. Or perhaps it will show me my own impatience, my own willingness to judge others, my cowardice, my own twisted love of material things. Here I will find a call to repent and to detach myself from the idolatry which gives rise to such behavior. Or perhaps, I will be surprised by my own generosity in a situation when I am often not so generous. Then, I may have some consolation in knowing that not all is lost, that the Spirit does move through me. https://dailychristianquote.com

Worthy Brief - June 28, 2024

Worthy Brief - June 28, 2024 Faces reflect; reflect on faces, and behold His beauty! Psalm 27:4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple. The Hebrew word for "face" is "panim", (the Hebrew letters, peh-nun-yud-mem), literally "faces", a plural word. Normally, when we think about God, we focus only upon one of His "faces” at a time. God is "love" – or He is "holy"-- or He is "just"--- or He's a God of "wrath". Yet, of course, ALL these "faces" are His at once; and so the word "panim" accurately reflects the truth of God's multifaceted being. As we get to know Him better we begin to appreciate the complexity of His nature and the fact that our focus on one "face" is a very limited view, since there's so much more going on in His ...

Today's Daily Encounter Friday, June 28, 2024 Missionary Ripples "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. and remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."1 The idea of being a missionary in another country does not appeal to very many of us. The thought of having to learn a new language or culture takes "leaving our comfort zone" to a whole different level! Yet, the Bible is clear on God's will for His children — we are to "go"!  When we think about going into all the world and making disciples, we automatically hear "Missionary" and it's easy to assume that we need to change our location to fulfill God's purpose. But being a missionary is not defined by travel time, and when we see it as only that, we misunderstand the ripple effect that God's love can produce — anywher...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 28th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 28th “One Look from the LORD! ” - Judges 6:14 What a look was that which the LORD gave to Gideon! He looked him out of his discouragement into a holy bravery. If our look to the LORD saves us, what will not His look at us do? LORD, look on me this day and nerve me for its duties and conflicts. What a word was this which Jehovah spoke to Gideon! "Go." He must not hesitate. He might have answered, "What, go in all this weakness?" But the LORD put that word out of court by saying, "Go in this thy might." The LORD had looked might into him, and he had now nothing to do but to use it and save Israel by smiting the Midianites. It may be that the LORD has more to do by me than I ever dreamed of. If He has looked upon me, He has made me strong. Let me by faith exercise the power with which He has entrusted me. He never bids me "idle away my time in this my might." Far from it. I mu...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 28th “Leaning upon her beloved” (Songs of Solomon 8:5) Shall you make the claim most practical and real and lean like John your full weight on the Lord’s breast? That is the way He would have us prove our love. “If you love me lean hard,” said a heathen woman to her missionary, as she was timidly leaning her tired body upon her stalwart breast. She felt slighted by the timorous reserve, and asked the confidence that would lay all its weight upon the one she trusted. And He says to us, “Casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you.” He would have us prove our love by a perfect trust that makes no reserve. He is able to carry all our care, to manage all our interests, to satisfy all our needs. Let us go forth leaning on His breast and feeding on His life. For John not only leaned but also fed. It was at supper that he leaned. This is the secret of feeding on Him, to rest upon His bosom. This is the need of the fevered heart of man. Let us ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 28

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 28 Tozer in the Morning Evidence of the Spirit at Work Someone wrote to me recently asking what I meant by a statement which occurs in the booklet Paths to Power, which I wrote some years ago. The passage reads: "No one was ever filled with the Holy Spirit without knowing it. The Holy Spirit always announces Himself to the human consciousness." What bothered my correspondent was the nature of this "announcement." Of what does it consist? How may we recognize it? Is it some kind of physical evidence, or what? This whole question is worthy of larger treatment than I can give it in this limited space. But possibly these thoughts will prove helpful to any who may be confused about the nature of spiritual evidence. There is such a thing as the secret workings of the Spirit in the soul of man, for a time unknown and unsuspected by the individual. In fact, most of the fruits of the Spirit are unsuspected by the man in...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th June 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th June 2024 6/28 Esther 9:22 22 as the days on which the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and gifts to the poor. So often we worry about something that will never come to pass. Worry is really a lack of trust in God. Certainly the Jews were concerned about the plot to destroy them so they fasted and prayed. They put their trust in God. Esther did what she could at the risk of her life, but the numerous coincidences were all in the hand of God. The very day the Jews were to be annihilated throughout the Persian kingdom, God turned the tables and instead it was their enemies that were killed. What man meant for evil, God turned around and used to bless His people. When fear strikes at our hearts, we need to do exactly what they did. Look to Go...

Worthy Brief - June 27, 2024

Worthy Brief - June 27, 2024 Pete, have the heart of a lion! Proverbs 28:1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion. There's an old adage, "Have the heart of a lion!" Hearing it, we think, "courage". This recalls a quote I once heard; "Courage is contagious. When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened". I doubt there's a single hero story in which the fearless leader fails to inspire the righteous determination of his army or people. The voice of the captain resounds through the ranks evoking the fierce cry of every warrior ready to face death or worse, for the cause. Courage truly is contagious. Of course, so is fear. And no matter how great or small our sphere, we are all, each and every one of us, people of influence. If, individually, I stand and face every fear with the boldness of a lion, I cannot fail to embolden others to stand courageously with me. But true courage will depend o...

Today's Daily Encounter Thursday, June 27, 2024 Waiting "I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him."1 We've probably all had the difficult experience of praying about something and wondering how long it will take God to answer us. We express our desire, pray sincerely, and sometimes become impatient. We might even start creating a backup plan if it seems like He's taking too long to respond. Learning to wait patiently on the Lord is an acquired and essential skill. David learned to do this in times of joy, exile, and conflict, writing in Psalm 40:1 "I waited patiently for the Lord." Here the writer is affirming something important. David recognized that patience helped his faith grow. The psalmi...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 27th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 27th “Thank Him; Dwell Acceptably ” - Psalms 140:13 Oh, that my heart may be upright, that I may always be able to bless the name of the LORD! He is so good to those that be good, that I would fain be among them and feel myself full of thankfulness every day. Perhaps, for a moment, the righteous are staggered when their integrity results in severe trial; but assuredly the day shall come when they shall bless their God that they did not yield to evil suggestions and adopt a shifty policy. In the long run true men will thank the God of the right for leading them by a right way. Oh, that I may be among them! What a promise is implied in this second clause, "The upright shall dwell in thy presence!" They shall stand accepted where others appear only to be condemned. They shall be the courtiers of the great King, indulged with audience whensoever they desire it. They shall be favored ones upon whom Jehovah s...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 27th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 27th “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) Some of the effects of being filled with the Spirit are: 1. Holiness of heart and life. This is not the perfection of the human nature, but the holiness of the divine nature dwelling within. 2. Fulness of joy so that the heart is constantly radiant. This does not depend on circumstances, but fills the spirit with holy laughter in the midst of the most trying surroundings. 3. Fulness of wisdom, light and knowledge, causing us to see things as He sees them. 4. An elevation, improvement and quickening of the mind by an ability to receive the fulfilment of the promise, “We have the mind of Christ.” 5. An equal quickening of the physical life. The body was made for the Holy Ghost, as well as the mind and soul. 6. An ability to pray the prayer of the Holy Ghost. If He is in us there will be a strange accordance with God’s working in the world around us. There is a divine harmony between the Spirit and ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 27

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 27 Tozer in the Morning Mature Living The absence of spiritual devotion today is an omen and a portent. The modern church is all but contemptuous of the sober virtues--meekness, modesty, humility, quietness, obedience, self-effacement, patience. To be accepted now, religion must be in the popular mood. Consequently, much religious activity reeks with pride, display, self-assertion, self-promotion, love of gain and devotion to trivial pleasures. It behooves us to take all this seriously. Time is running out for all of us. What is done must be done quickly. We have no right to lie idly by and let things take their course. A farmer who neglects his farm will soon lose it; a shepherd who fails to look after his flock will find the wolves looking after it for him. A misbegotten charity that allows the wolves to destroy the flock is not charity at all but indifference, rather, and should be known for what it is and dealt with accordingl...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th June 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th June 2024 6/27 Nehemiah 8:17 17 And all the assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and lived in the booths, for from the days of Jeshua the son of Nun to that day the people of Israel had not done so. And there was very great rejoicing. The walls were completed and the people heard the books of Moses read and explained to them. It was the time of year for the Feast of Booths. There is a confession in our verse for today. Israel had ignored God's command to celebrate the Feast of Booths each year at the appointed time. How could a nation whose laws were all based on a book completely neglect one of the key commands in the book for centuries? Perhaps that was a factor in their backsliding and resultant captivity. When they did what they had long neglected, there was very great rejoicing. When we do what we know is the will of God, our hearts are not only at peace, but filled with great joy. The feast recalls their delive...

Worthy Brief - June 26, 2024 He opens the doors no man can shut! Isaiah 22:22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Revelation 3:7-9 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and ...

Today's Daily Encounter Wednesday, June 26, 2024 Between the Trapezes "The LORD is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?"1 If you have ever been to a circus and watched the high-flying trapeze artists perform their seemingly death-defying acts, you will have undoubtedly thrilled with the exhilaration of their performance and their split-second timing. I think I'd be a nervous wreck if they didn't have a safety net below to catch them should they fall.  If I had to do that (especially without a net) I think I'd freeze, as I am terrified of heights! I can imagine thinking, "Will I be able to reach my partner? Will he be able to catch me? Or will I crash and be hurt or even killed?"  Sometimes life can be somewhat like that. I've been there on occasion and you probably have too. Life or work as you knew it suddenly ended. Perhaps you lost a spouse, or your marriage fell apart, o...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook"

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook"  “It Will Not Be Long ” - James 5:8 The last word in the Canticle of love is, "Make haste, my beloved," and among the last words of the Apocalypse we read, "The Spirit and the Bride say, Come"; to which the heavenly Bridegroom answers, "Surely I come quickly." Love longs for the glorious appearing of the LORD and enjoys this sweet promise - "The coming of the LORD draweth nigh." This stays our minds as to the future. We look out with hope through this window. This sacred "window of agate" lets in a flood of light upon the present and puts us into fine condition for immediate work or suffering. Are we tired? Then the nearness of our joy whispers patience. Are we growing weary because we do not see the harvest of our seed-sowing? Again this glorious truth cries to us, "Be patient." Do our multiplied temptations cause us in the least to waver? Then the assurance that befor...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 26th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 26th “When He saw the multitudes He was moved” (Matthew 9:36) He is able to be “touched with the feeling of our infirmities.” The word “touched” expresses a great deal. It means that our troubles are His troubles, and that in all our afflictions He is afflicted. It is not a sympathy of sentiment, but a sympathy of suffering. There is much help in this for the tired heart. It is the foundation of His Priesthood, and God meant that it should be to us a source of unceasing consolation. Let us realize, more fully, our oneness with our Great High Priest, and cast all our burdens on His great heart of love. If we know what it is to ache in every nerve with the responsive pain of our suffering child, we can form some idea of how our sorrows touch His heart, and thrill His exalted frame. As the mother feels her babe’s pain, as the heart of friendship echoes every cry from another’s woe, so in heaven, our exalted Saviour, even amid the raptures of that h...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 26

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 26 Tozer in the Morning Faith Despite Feeling or Sight A fanatic is somebody seeking desirable ends but ignoring constituted means. Seeking to get out of the religious rut is a desirable end. It is right and it is in the will of God. But trying to do it in a manner that is not according to God"s constituted means is all wrong and gets us nowhere. When they want to get blessed, some people try getting worked up psychologically. There are some who, while they have not studied psychology, are master psychologists. They know how to manipulate audiences, knowing when to lower their voices and when to raise them, when to make them sound very sad and all the rest. They know how to get people all worked up. . . . Some people try group dynamics. We all sit around together and practice togetherness, and by practicing togetherness we finally work up some spirituality. What is needed is some old-fashioned, salty horse sense. I am sure th...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th June 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th June 2024 6/26 Nehemiah 5:15 15 The former governors who were before me laid heavy burdens on the people and took from them for their daily ration forty shekels of silver. Even their servants lorded it over the people. But I did not do so, because of the fear of God. The people that had returned to Jerusalem had to pay hefty taxes each year. Some of them had to mortgage their land and even sold their daughters into servitude to remain there. In addition, they were spending much of their time helping to build the city wall. Nehemiah saw their hardship. Instead of demanding an increased tax to cover his expenses of feeding his servants and dignitaries that came, he met the need on his own. He was not like the governors that came before him. He and his servants worked alongside the people. They did not take advantage of their authority, but rather used it to serve the people. This is exactly what Jesus did. He said that He had come to serve and not to ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 25th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 25th “A Staircase to Heaven ” - John 1:51 Yes, to our faith this sight is plain even at this day. We do see heaven opened. Jesus Himself has opened that kingdom to all believers. We gaze into the place of mystery and glory, for He has revealed it to us. We shall enter it soon, for He is the way. Now we see the explanation of Jacob’s ladder. Between earth and heaven there is a holy commerce; prayer ascends, and answers come down by the way of Jesus, the Mediator. We see this ladder when we see our LORD. In Him a stairway of light now furnishes a clear passage to the throne of the Most High. Let us use it and send up by it the messengers of our prayers. We shall live the angelic life ourselves if we run up to heaven in intercession, lay hold upon the blessings of the covenant, and then descend again to scatter those gifts among the sons of men. This choice sight which Jacob only saw in a dream will turn into a brig...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 25th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 25th “Who leadeth us in triumph” (2 Corinthians 2:14) Every victor must first be a self-conqueror. But the method of Joshua’s victory was the uplifted arm of Moses on the Mount. As he held up his hands Joshua prevailed, as he lowered them Amalek prevailed. It was to be a battle of faith and not of human strength, and the banner that was to wave over the discomfited foe, “Jehovah-nissi.” This, too, is the secret of our spiritual triumph. “If we are led of the Spirit we shall not fulfil the lusts of the flesh.” “Sin shall not have dominion over you, for ye are not under the law but under grace.” Have we thus begun the battle and in the strength of Christ planted our feet on our own necks, and thus victorious over the enemy in the citadel of the heart been set at liberty for the battle of the Lord and the service of others? It was the lack of this that hindered the life of Saul and it has wrecked many a promising career. One enemy in the heart is s...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 25

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for June 25 Tozer in the Morning Faithless Action and Actionless Faith Rightly understood, faith is not a substitute for moral conduct but a means toward it. The tree does not serve in lieu of fruit but as an agent by which fruit is secured. Fruit, not trees, is the end God has in mind in yonder orchard; so Christlike conduct is the end of Christian faith. To oppose faith to works is to make the fruit the enemy to the tree; yet that is exactly what we have managed to do. And the consequences have been disastrous. A miscalculation in laying the foundation of a building will throw the whole superstructure out of plumb, and the error that gave us faith as a substitute for action instead of faith in action has raised up in our day unsymmetrical and ugly temples of which we may well be ashamed, and for which we shall surely give a strict account in the day when Christ judges the secrets of our hearts. Tozer in the Evening CONFESSING OUR LOVE Co...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 25th June 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 25th June 2024 6/25 Nehemiah 4:7 7 But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and that the breaches were beginning to be closed, they were very angry. Nehemiah had received permission from the king to go to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. After arriving in the city and surveying the damage, he gathered the people and shared the vision and how God had helped him. They began to rebuild the walls. Most were building the section that was closest to their home. This assured they would do the best they could so that their own home would be safe. When the surrounding people saw the wall half completed, they decided to attack and confuse the workers. Earlier they had claimed Nehemiah was committing treason. Now they are doing the very thing they accused him of, for the rebuilding was done with the king's permission. It is amazing how history is repeated...

Worthy Brief - June 24, 2024

Worthy Brief - June 24, 2024 Outnumbered, exhausted, but still in pursuit! Judges 8:4-6 When Gideon came to the Jordan, he and the three hundred men who were with him crossed over, exhausted but still in pursuit. Then he said to the men of Succoth, "Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me, for they are exhausted, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian. "And the leaders of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?" Judges 6:12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, "The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!" "Exhausted but still in pursuit..." Well, now we know why the angel of YHVH addressed Gideon the way he did. With his small three hundred man army he had just decimated the army of Midian -- but the victory wasn’t complete, and so the Jewish general and his small, exhausted, hungry, band were determined to cross the Jorda...

Today's Daily Encounter Monday, June 24, 2024

Today's Daily Encounter Monday, June 24, 2024 A Happy Heart Happy are the people with such blessings. Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.1  Our struggle to "have it all" usually begins with the state of our hearts. We set out to make our heart happy by chasing after what we know will make us happy— family, careers, and even religion. In the same way, many that claim to know Jesus lack the evidence of the joy that comes from an abundant life in Him.   King David's first wife, Michal, was the daughter of the former King, Saul. She had lived a privileged life and probably had everything her heart could desire, but she lacked joy. Her heart longed for something she had possibly not yet discovered. She had been raised as a child of God, knowing His Word and practicing His commandments, but she hadn't discovered her own personal relationship with God the way her husband had.  David's relationship with the Lord is evident throughout Scripture. On the day that...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: June 24th “The LORD’s "Much More" ” - 2 Chronicles 25:9 If you have made a mistake, bear the loss of it; but do not act contrary to the will of the LORD. The LORD can give you much more than you are likely to lose; and if He does not, will you begin bargaining and chaffering with God. The king of Judah had hired an army from idolatrous Israel, and he was commanded to send home the fighting men because the LORD was not with them. He was willing to send away the host, only he grudged paying the hundred talents for nothing. Oh, for shame! If the LORD will give the victory without the hirelings, surely it was a good bargain to pay their wages and to be rid of them. Be willing to lose money for conscience’ sake, for peace’s sake, for Christ’s sake. Rest assured that losses for the LORD are not losses. Even in this life they are more than recompensed: in some cases the LORD prevents any loss from happening. As to ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 24th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: June 24th “I will clothe thee with change of raiment” (Zechariah 3:4) For Paul every exercise of the Christian life was simply the grace of Jesus Christ imparted to him and lived out by him, so that holiness was to put on the Lord Jesus and all the robes of His perfect righteousness which he loves to describe so often in his beautiful epistles. “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,” he says to the Colossians, “bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long suffering”; and, “above all these things, put on love which is the bond of perfectness.” None of these things are regarded as intrinsic qualities in us, but as imparted graces from the hand of Jesus. And even in the later years of his life, and after the mature experience of a quarter of a century we find him exclaiming, “I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord; for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and...
