Worthy Brief - February 29, 2024

Worthy Brief - February 29, 2024 Take action! Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. One of my passions is studying history, especially the American Civil War. Here is an amusing story about General Stonewall Jackson's famous Valley Campaign. During the war, Jackson's army found itself on one side of a river when it needed to be on the other. After telling his engineers to plan and build a bridge so the army could cross, he called his wagon master in to tell him it was urgent that the wagon train cross the river as soon as possible. At once, the wagon master started gathering all the logs, rocks and fence rails he could find and quickly put together a bridge. Long before daylight, General Jackson got word that all the wagons and artillery had crossed the river. "Where are the engineers and what are they doing?" asked Jackson of his wagon master. "They are drawing up plans for a bridge, Sir." He replied. Don't...

This Day's Verse 29th February 2024

This Day's Verse 29th February 2024 Thus says the Lord: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come, and my deliverance be revealed.  Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who holds it fast, who keeps the sabbath, not profaning it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Isaiah 56:1-2 The Revised Standard Version https://thisdaysthought.org/

This Day's Thought 29th February 2024

This Day's Thought 29th February 2024 To be converted is to transfer our life’s centre of gravity from ourselves to God, to free ourselves from ourselves, to break with our self-sufficient and selfish nature, and to seek our supreme satisfaction not in ourselves but in him. Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 29

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 29 Tozer in the Morning When the Heart Lights Go On God is concerned with the whole man and has designed that Christian experience should embrace the entire personality. The Christian faith deals not with the spiritual only but with the moral and the rational as well. The rational and moral elements in religion are the proper objects of thought and willingly yield their rich treasures to prayerful meditation. The Christian faith deals with God and man and what can be known about them and their relation one to the other. It contemplates creation, redemption, righteousness, sacred history, the destiny of mankind and the future of the world. Such truths, once they have been revealed by divine inspiration, lie where they can be got at by the redeemed intellect and wait to be exploited by the sons of the kingdom. Under the illumination and guidance of the Holy Spirit the prayerful, studious believer can become a Christian philosoph...

Wayide Chapel Daily Devotional 29th February 2024 Morning February 29 Leviticus 26:40-42 40"'But if they will confess their sins and the sins of their fathers–their treachery against me and their hostility toward me, 41which made me hostile toward them so that I sent them into the land of their enemies–then when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they pay for their sin, 42I will remember my covenant with Jacob and my covenant with Isaac and my covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land. What was left of the nation of Israel went into captivity one thousand years later just as the LORD promised. They were unfaithful to be the examples to the world that God had called them to be. Instead, they worshipped the gods of the people around them and perverted justice. Treachery and hostility toward God sounds so evil, but it is accurate. In great patience God endured this attitude and sent them prophet after prophet, most of whom they murdered. Finally, when they had g...

Daily Christian Quote 29th February 2024 Dan McCollam February 29, 2024 In Psalm 46:1 He is called "an ever-present help in times of trouble." It is the nature of God to stay fully present to every individual who desires His attention. As we lean in to Him, we learn to live in that part of His nature within us! Enjoy Emmanuel. Worthy Brief - February 27, 2024

Worthy Brief - February 27, 2024 Understand the Lord's part in the salt covenant! 2 Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. Yesterday's devotional revealed the salt covenant as a covenant of loyalty; today I want to share an understanding of the Lord's part in this covenant. Yeshua (Jesus) said He is the "bread of life". It was His body that was broken on our behalf as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins. Notice that He never once called us to be the "bread of life"! He is the ONLY "Bread of Life" – the true bread who came down from Heaven which anyone may eat and not die. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is His flesh, given for the life of the world. We must realize that we can ADD NOTHING to His sacrifice. If we begin to believe that any good works can add to His sacrifice then we have nullified the perfection of the Messiah's work wh...

Today's Daily Encounter Tuesday, February 27, 2024

Today's Daily Encounter Tuesday, February 27, 2024 Living in the Present "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching."1 Many of us spend a lot of energy in the present thinking about the past and the future. We know the past is out of our control, but it worries us. We tend to believe that the future belongs to us, but we worry about what it holds and whether it will bring joy or pain. The gospel invites us to entrust both the past and the future to God. That mindset frees us to live for the Lord in the only time we can: the present. Yes, its fullness is an aspect of God's kingdom that has not yet arrived, but at the same time, we live in his Kingdom here and now. Hebrews 3:13 says, "But encourage one anot...

This Day's Verse 27th February 2024

This Day's Verse 27th February 2024 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.  They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.”  And he said, “Bring them here to me.”  Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing.  Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.  And they all ate and were satisfied.  And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.  And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. This Day's Thought 27th February 2024 The Shepherd knows what pastures are best for his sheep, and they must not question nor doubt, but trustingly follow Him.  Perhaps He sees that the best pastures for some of us are to be found in the midst of opposition or of earthly trials.  If He leads you there, you may be sure they are green for you, and you will grow and be made strong by feeding there.  Perhaps He sees that the best waters for you to walk beside will be raging waves of trouble and sorrow.  If this should be the case, He will make them still waters for you, and you must go and lie down beside them, and let them have all their blessed influences upon you. Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th February 2024 2/27 Exodus 23:15-16 15 You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. As I commanded you, you shall eat unleavened bread for seven days at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. None shall appear before me empty-handed. 16 You shall keep the Feast of Harvest, of the first fruits of your labor, of what you sow in the field. You shall keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in from the field the fruit of your labor. The LORD gave the nation of Israel laws for societal order, health, and worship. Jesus told us they all can be summed up in loving God with your all and your neighbor as yourself. When we look at the laws, we should be able to see the heart of God that gave them. In today's text, the LORD commanded the people to come to three feasts every year. In addition to taking off one day in seven to rest and one year in seven as well, they were to take these weeklong ...

Worthy Brief - February 26, 2024 Season with salt! Leviticus 2:13 And every offering of your grain offering you shall season with salt; you shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your grain offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt. For years, when I visited my father-in-law's home in Jerusalem on the Sabbath, we would break bread and bless the bread with the traditional blessing – "Baruch Ata Adonai Eleheynu Melech HaOlam Ha-Motzi Lechem Min Ha'aretz" – which translated means,"Blessed are You Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who has given us bread from the earth". After the blessing, my father-in-law would take salt and sprinkle the challah bread as he broke and passed it to everyone at the table. I began to understand this blessing only a few years ago, when I stumbled across this verse in Leviticus about adding salt to every grain offering. Mentioned only three times in Scripture, yet this covenant carries ...

Today's Daily Encounter Monday, February 26, 2024 God's Best for You "The LORD said to Moses, Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them': 'The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace'".1 We usually start the week in a hurry: tasks, meetings, pending activities and, of course, stress, but I would like to invite you to pause and take a deep breath. Imagine you're in a sunny spot, it may be the moment you wake up on a vacation day. The sun shines through the window and bathes your face. Or maybe you're on a beach. There's no better place to be. The waves crash on the shore, the clarity of the sun twinkling as it reflects off the water. Wherever you are, enjoy the sun's rays and experience its warm glow. Can you feel it? Being in God's presence is more comforting than a day of vacation. In it we ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: February 26th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: February 26th “Truth Established ” - Proverbs 12:19 Truth wears well. Time tests it, but it right well endures the trial. R; then, I have spoken the truth and have for the present to suffer for it, I must be content to wait. If also I believe the truth of God and endeavor to declare it, I may meet with much opposition, but I need not fear, for ultimately the truth must prevail. What a poor thing is the temporary triumph of falsehood! "A lying lip is but for a moment!" It is a mere gourd which comes up in a night and perishes in a night; and the greater its development the more manifest its decay. On the other hand, how worthy of an immortal being is the avowal and defense of that truth which can never change; the everlasting gospel, which is established in the immutable truth of an unchanging God! An old proverb saith, "He that speaks truth shames the devil." Assuredly he that speaks the truth of G...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: February 26th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: February 26th “Make you perfect in every good work” (Hebrews 13:21) In that beautiful prayer at the close of the Epistle to the Hebrews, “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead, our Lord Jesus Christ, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will,” the phrase, “make you perfect in every good work,” literally means, it is said, “adjust you in every good work.” It is a great thing to be adjusted, adjusted to our surroundings and circumstances rather than trying to have them adjusted to us, adjusted to the people we are thrown with, adjusted to the work God has for us, and not trying to get God to help us to do our work; adjusted to do the very will and plan of God for us in our whole life. This is the secret of rest, power and freedom in our life-work. “Oh, fill me with Thy fulness, Lord. Until my very heart o’erflow In kindling thought and glowin...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 26 Tozer in the Morning LET US TAKE IT PERSONALLY What a difference it makes when we humans cease being general and become pointed and personal in our approach to God! We then come to see that all that God did was for each of us. It was for me that holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. For me Christ died-and when He arose on the third day it was for me. When the promised Holy Spirit came it was to continue in me the work He had been doing for me, since the morning of the Creation! So, I have every right to claim all of the riches of the Godhead in mercy given. What a blessed thought-that an infinite God can give all of Himself to each of His children! He does not distribute Himself that each may have a part, but to each one He gives all of Himself as fully as if there were no others. All that He is and all that He has done is for us and for all who share the common salvation. Tozer in the Evening Dross Removal ...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th February 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 26th February 2024 2/26 Exodus 20:24b 24b In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you. In the middle of God's law regarding altars, there is this profound promise. Where His name is remembered, He promises to come and bring a blessing. God revealed his name, YHWH, to Moses (Exodus 6:3). The sense of His name is the timeless, ever present God. The name of the LORD first dwelt in the tabernacle in Shiloh (Jeremiah 7:12). Later the name of the LORD would dwell in the temple in Jerusalem (Deuteronomy 12:5, 11). This passage we are looking at does not say "where I cause my name to dwell," but where it is "remembered". In the context of the passage He caused His name to be remembered where sacrifice to the LORD took place such as at the tabernacle and the temple. One of the clear teachings of the New Testament is that we, the redeemed of Jesus, are the temple of the living God (Ephesians 2:19-2...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 25th February 2024 2/25 Exodus 20:3 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. The first of the Ten Commandments helps us obey all the rest. If the holy God of Israel, Creator of heaven and earth, is our God, then we will serve and obey Him alone. Disobedience to most of the other nine commandments comes from making light of this first one. That is one reason Jesus taught that the Great Command was to love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second commandment is to not bow to other gods. The third is to not take God's name in vain. The fourth is to remember the Sabbath, a day of worship and rest. If the Living God is first in our heart, then of course we will keep all of these commands. The fifth commandment is to honor your father and mother. The sixth is to not commit murder. Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: February 25th “Set Apart ” - Isaiah 61:6 This literal promise to Israel belongs spiritually to the seed after the Spirit, namely, to all believers. If we live up to our privileges, we shall live unto God so clearly and distinctly that men shall see that we are set apart for holy service and shall name us the priests of the LORD. We may work or trade as others do, and yet we may be solely and wholly the ministering servants of God. Our one occupation shall be to present the perpetual sacrifice of prayer, and praise, and testimony, and self-consecration to the living God by Jesus Christ. This being our one aim, we may leave distracting concerns to those who have no higher calling. "Let the dead bury their dead." It is written, "Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vine-dressers," They may manage politics, puzzle out financial problems, d...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: February 25th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: February 25th “I am the vine, ye are the branches” (John 15:5) How can I take Christ as my Sanctifier, or Healer? is a question that we are constantly asked. It is necessary first of all that we get into the posture of faith. This has to be done by a definite and voluntary act, and then maintained by a uniform habit. It is just the same as the planting of a tree. You must put it in the soil by a definite act, and then you must let it stay put and remain settled in the ground until the little roots have time to fix themselves and begin to draw the sustenance from the soil. There are two stages, the definite planting and then the habitual absorbing of moisture and nourishment from the ground. The root fibers must rest until they reach out their spongy pores and drink in the nutriment of the earth. After the habit is established, then by a certain uniform law, the plant draws its life from the ground without an effort, and it is just as natural for it t...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 25

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 25 Tozer in the Morning Mature Living The absence of spiritual devotion today is an omen and a portent. The modern church is all but contemptuous of the sober virtues--meekness, modesty, humility, quietness, obedience, self-effacement, patience. To be accepted now, religion must be in the popular mood. Consequently, much religious activity reeks with pride, display, self-assertion, self-promotion, love of gain and devotion to trivial pleasures. It behooves us to take all this seriously. Time is running out for all of us. What is done must be done quickly. We have no right to lie idly by and let things take their course. A farmer who neglects his farm will soon lose it; a shepherd who fails to look after his flock will find the wolves looking after it for him. A misbegotten charity that allows the wolves to destroy the flock is not charity at all but indifference, rather, and should be known for what it is and dealt with accord...

Daily Christian Quote 25th February 2025

Daily Christian Quote 25th February 2025 Scott Hubbard February 25, 2024 Prayer invades the hours after morning devotions as we turn every burden into "Help me," every pleasure into "Thank you," every temptation into "Deliver me," and every opportunity for obedience into "Strengthen me." Prayer is more than a slot in our schedule; it is the reflex of our hearts, the aroma of our waking hours. https://dailychristianquote.com

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 24

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for February 24 Tozer in the Morning Man - The Dwelling Place of God - How to Try the Spirits THESE ARE THE TIMES that try men's souls. The Spirit has spoken expressly that in the latter times some should depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron. Those days are upon us and we cannot escape them; we must triumph in the midst of them, for such is the will of God concerning us. Strange as it may seem, the danger today is greater for the fervent Christian than for the lukewarm and the self-satisfied. The seeker after God's best things is eager to hear anyone who offers a way by which he can obtain them. He longs for some new experience, some elevated view of truth, some operation of the Spirit that will raise him above the dead level of religious mediocrity he sees all around him, and for this reason he is ready to give a s...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 24th February 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 24th February 2024 2/24 Exodus 18:18 18 You and the people with you will certainly wear yourselves out, for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to do it alone. Moses was trying to be priest to the entire nation. The people stood in line all day to wait for Moses to listen to their case and hear from God. Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, saw this process and spoke the words in our verse for today. No one can carry such a load day after day regardless of how gifted they are. Not only does it wear on the person, but it is tiring for those waiting for their turn to be heard. Jethro encouraged Moses to share the load by appointing others to help. He suggested Moses look for able and trustworthy men to be over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens, to share the load. Then the people could get a quick hearing and fewer cases would go all the way to Moses. Moses meant well. Until Jethro pointed out the solution, Moses could not see that God could ...

Daily Christian Quote 24th February

Daily Christian Quote 24th February Let no Christian parents fall into the delusion that Sunday School is intended to ease them of their personal duties. The first and most natural condition of things is for Christian parents to train up their own children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Worthy Brief - February 22, 2024

Worthy Brief - February 22, 2024 Be sure to enjoy life! John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. A recent study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California Los Angeles wanted to find out, "If you had to choose between more time and more money, what would it be?" While most respondents answered "more money", they also found that those who preferred "more time" were generally happier! When I read this article, it reminded me of a story, that I'd like to share. A wealthy businessman was shocked to see a fisherman sitting beside his boat, playing with a small child. So the businessman asked, "Why aren't you out fishing?" The fisherman replied, "Because I've caught enough fish for one day." "Why don't you catch some more?" the businessman further inquired. ...

Today's Daily Encounter Friday, February 23, 2024 Don't Quit "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."1   Ignacy Jan Paderewski, the famous pianist, was scheduled to perform at a great concert hall in America. It was a high-society extravaganza. Present in the audience that evening was a mother and her fidgety nine-year old. She had brought him in the hopes that when he heard the great composer play, he would be encouraged to practice.   As the mother turned to talk with some friends, he slipped away and was strangely drawn to the grand Steinway piano on the platform. Staring wide-eyed at the keys the boy sat on the stool; placed his small fingers on the keys and began to play "Chopsticks." The roar of the crowd came to a hush as frowning faces pointed in his direction. Someone began to shout, "Get that boy away from there!" "W...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: February 23rd

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: February 23rd “Unbroken Fellowship Essential ” - John 15:7 Of necessity we must be in Christ to live unto Him, and we must abide in Him to be able to claim the largesse of this promise from Him. To abide in Jesus is never to quit Him for another love or another object, but to remain in living, loving, conscious, willing union with Him. The branch is not only ever near the stem but ever receiving life and fruitfulness horn it. All true believers abide in Christ in a sense; but there is a higher meaning, and this we must know before we can gain unlimited power at the throne. "Ask what ye will" is for Enochs who walk with God, for Johns who lie in the LORD’s bosom, for those whose union with Christ leads to constant communion. The heart must remain in love, the mind must be rooted in faith, the hope must be cemented to the Word, the whole man must be joined unto the LORD, or else it would be dangerous to trust ...
