Worthy Brief - December 11, 2024

Worthy Brief - December 11, 2024 Raise your expectations! Mark 11:24 Therefore I say to you, Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them. Charles Spurgeon wrote "Prayer pulls the rope below and the great bell rings above in the ears of God. Some scarcely stir the bell, for they pray so languidly. Others give but an occasional pluck at the rope. But he who wins with heaven is the man who grasps the rope boldly and pulls continuously, with all his might." Some might take this to mean that we need to beg and plead desperately for God to answer our prayers. I don't think so. I believe that we must pray, expecting for God to bring the answer and do the work because, among many other reasons, He is faithful, just and loves us with an everlasting love! Raise your expectations today! Expect God to do something great and we'll believe along with you to see mighty breakthroughs! Your family in the Lord with much agape love, Geo...

Today's Daily Encounter Wednesday, December 11, 2024 Patient Endurance So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.1 I don’t know about you, but I am not great at being still and waiting. I like to be an “active participant” who tries to make things happen faster! I am a fixer and a go-getter. So, when things happen in my life where there is literally nothing I can do to speed up the process or fix the situation, I know it is God’s way of gently reminding me that He has it all under control. He is working in ways I cannot see, and I need to trust and have patient endurance in the process. I read the following about patience a while ago, and it has really been a great reminder during times when I get impatient. Patience is: 1. the ability to sit back and wait for an expected outcome without experiencin...

True Vine Devotional for December 11

True Vine Devotional for December 11 “ I am The Vine, Ye Are The Branches ” - John 15:5 Christ had already said much of the branch; here He comes to the personal application: “Ye are the branches of whom I have been speaking. As I am the Vine, engaged to be and do all the branches need, so I now ask you, in the new dispensation of the Holy Spirit whom I have been promising you, to accept the place I give you, and to be My branches on earth.” The relationship He seeks to establish is an intensely personal one: it all hinges on the two little words I and You. And it is for us as intensely personal as for the first disciples. Let us present ourselves before our Lord, until He speak to each of us in power, and our whole soul feels it: “I am the Vine; you are the branch.” Dear disciple of Jesus, however young or feeble, hear the voice. “You are the branch.” You must be nothing less. Let no false humility, no carnal fear of sacrifice, no unbelieving doubts as to what you feel able for, ...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for December 11

Streams in the Desert Devotional for December 11 "Ye servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of the Lord. The Lord that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion" (Psalms 134:1; Psalms 134:3). Strange time for adoration, you say, to stand in God’s house by night, to worship in the depth of sorrow -- it is indeed an arduous thing. Yes, and therein lies the blessing; it is the test of perfect faith. If I would know the love of my friend I must see what it can do in the winter. So with the Divine love. It is easy for me to worship in the summer sunshine when the melodies of life are in the air and the fruits of life are on the tree. But let the song of the bird cease and the fruit of the tree fall, and will my heart still go on to sing? Will I stand in God’s house by night? Will I love Him in His own night? Will I watch with Him even one hour in His Gethsemane? Will I help to bear His cross up the dolorous way? Will I stand beside Him in His dying moments wit...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 11

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 11 Tozer in the Morning IN THE BEGINNING None of us can approach a consideration of the eternal nature and Person of Jesus Christ without sensing and confessing our human inadequacy in the face of the divine revelation. John, in his gospel, provides a beautiful portrait of the eternal Christ, starting with those stark, incredible words: "In the beginning!', My brethren, that is where we start with the understanding and the revelation of Christianity! Many others have made a variety of claims but only our Christ is the Christ of God. Certainly it was not Buddha and not Mohammed; not Joseph Smith, not Mrs. Eddy and not Father Divine! All of these and countless others like them had beginnings-but they all had their endings, too. What an incredible difference! Our Christian life commences with the eternal Son of God. This is our Lord Jesus Christ: the Word who was with the Father in the beginning; the Word who was God; a...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 11

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 11 “I pray not for the world, but for them” (John 17:9) How often we say we would like to get some strong spirit to pray for us, and feel so helped when we think they are carrying us in their faith. But there is One whose prayers never fail to be fulfilled and who is more willing to give them to us than any human friend. His one business at God’s right hand is to make intercession for His people, and we are simply coming in the line of His own appointment and His own definite promise and provision, when we lay our burdens upon Him and claim His advocacy without doubt or fear. “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us come boldly to the throne of grace that we may find help in time of need.” Like a golden censer glowing, Filled with burning odors rare, All my heart is upward flowing, In a cloud of ceaseless prayer. O’er the heavenly altar bending, Jesus interceding sta...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 11

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 11 Morning “It behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren.” Hebrews 2 Hebrews 2:1 As if our apostle had said, Seeing Christ is so excellent in his person, and seeing the gospel has such a glorious author, let us take great care that we esteem his person, revere his authority, reverence his ministry, and believe his message; and let us take heed that our memories be not like leaking vessels, suffering the word at any time to slip or run from us. Hebrews 2:2-4 Let that question ring in our ears, “How shall we escape?” There will be no escape, there can be none if we refuse the Lord Jesus. Do we mean to be lost? Dare we continue to neglect the great salvation? Hebrews 2:5-9 Jesus died that to all men the message of salvation might be delivered, and that each one might be assured that upon his believing he will be pardoned. None are excluded from mercy but those who exclude themselves. Hebrews 2:10-12 This...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 11

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 11 “Trust and Do; Do and Trust ” - Psalms 37:3 Trust and do are words which go well together, in the order in which the Holy Spirit has placed them. We should have faith, and that faith should work. Trust in God sets us upon holy doing: we trust God for good, and then we do good. We do not sit still because we trust, but we arouse ourselves and expect the LORD to work through us and by us. It is not ours to worry and do evil but to trust and do good. We neither trust without doing nor do without trusting. Adversaries would root us out if they could; but by trusting and doing we dwell in the land. We will not go into Egypt, but we will remain in Immanuel’s land-the providence of God, the Canaan of covenant love. We are not so easily to be got rid of as the LORD’s enemies suppose. They cannot thrust us Out nor stamp us out: where God has given us a name and a place, there we abide. But what about the supply...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 11th December 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 11th December 2024 12/11 Matthew 16:27 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. The justice of God not only demands punishment for wickedness, but reward for godly actions. We should do what is good without any expectation or motivation of reward. Good is its own reward. However, God promises multiple times in both the Old and New Testaments that He will repay each person according to his or her deeds. If we were to only read this passage, it would sound as if salvation is based on works. That would be an incomplete understanding of Scripture and our condition. The only way we can ever even begin to do what is truly good is by receiving the grace of God by faith. Then by faith we let Him work through us what is truly good. Without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5), that is, nothing that is truly good. Why would God repay us for the work He do...

Worthy Brief - December 10, 2024

Worthy Brief - December 10, 2024 Sometimes its hard to understand adversity -- but there's a purpose! Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. I suppose one of the hardest questions to answer is: "Why do I have to deal with so much adversity?!" Quite honestly, one of the best answers I've ever come across was written by C.S. Lewis in his book, Mere Christianity. Lewis likened God's use of adversity to walking a dog. If the dog gets its leash wrapped around a pole and tries to continue running forward, he will only tighten the leash more. Both the dog and the owner are after the same end: forward motion. But the owner must resist the dog by pulling him opposite of the direction that he wants to go. The master, sharing the same intention, but understanding better than the dog where he really wants to go, takes an action precisely opposite to that of the dog's will....

Today's Daily Encounter Tuesday, December 10, 2024 Something New See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.1 We had a few different wildfires in Southern California this summer. One of these fires blazed through a mountain range just above our home. Thousands of acres were burnt, and several structures were damaged or destroyed. The once robust trees were charred. Driving through there the past couple of months has been devastating, as we look around and see a dry, black scenery for miles. However, this past week we drove through there and saw something beautiful. New leaves are growing out of these burnt and dried branches! We thought that these trees had been burnt to the core, but there is new life springing up out of the ashes. There are times when our lives may feel like these burnt and dried out trees. The circumstances around us may be overwhelming, and we may be allowing them to ...

The Way by Kevin Pauley

The Way by Kevin Pauley Complex Simplicity Date Posted: December 10, 2024 Once when Jesus had been out praying, one of his disciples came to him as he finished and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1 “Teach us to pray.” This disciple had a flash of insight. He realized that there were hidden depths, unrealized complexities to prayer that were eluding him. When audiences who are not familiar with the art of grappling watch two master wrestlers, they often think not much is happening. Because they have not tried wrestling themselves, they don’ t see the nuances. They don’t notice the vibrating deltoid muscles that tell a story of nearly superhuman strain. They don’t see the little adjustments of balance that should telegraph that the person is trying to get a tactical advantage. Ah, but get an old grappler to watch and he will thoroughly enjoy himself. When my father-in-law watches a hockey game, he leans and twists and his muscles twitch in ...

True Vine Devotional for December 10

True Vine Devotional for December 10 “ I am The Vine, Ye Are The Branches ” - John 15:5 In the previous verse Christ had just said: “Abide in me.” He had then announced the great unalterable law of all branch-life, on earth or in Heaven: “not of itself”; “except it abide.” In the opening words of the parable He had already spoken: “I am the vine.” He now repeats the words. He would have us understand—note well the lesson, simple as it appears, it is the key of the abiding life—that the only way to obey the command, “Abide in me,” is to have eye and heart fixed upon Himself. “Abide in me...I am the true vine.” Yea, study this holy mystery until you see Christ as the true Vine, bearing, strengthening, supplying, inspiring all His branches, being and doing in each branch all it needs, and the abiding will come of itself. Yes, gaze upon Him as the true Vine, until you feel what a heavenly Mystery it is, and are compelled to ask the Father to reveal it to you by His Holy Spi rit. He to...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 10

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 10 Tozer in the Morning Being and Doing Emerson complains in one of his essays that society tends to overlook our essential humanity and to think of us as being what we do. There should be no farmers, he argues, or carpenters, or painters; there should only be men who farm and paint and do carpenter work. This distinction is fine but vastly important, for the most vital thing about any man is not what he does or what he has but what he is. And first of all, a man must be a man--that is, a human being free in the earth, free to do anything his basic humanity requires him to do. And apart from sin (which is a moral abnormality, a disease in the heart of the man), whatever the man does is good and natural and pleasing to God. Man was made in the image of God; it is that image that gave him his high honor as a man and marked him out as something unique and apart. His occupation--farmer, carpenter, miner or office worker--is a...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 10

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 10 “According to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed” (2 Corinthians 10:13) According to thy faith be it unto thee was Christ’s great law of healing and blessing in His earthly ministry. This was what He meant when He said, “With what measure ye mete it shall be measured to you again.” These mighty measures are limited by the measures that we bring. God deals out His heavenly treasures to us in these glorious vessels, but each of us must bring our drinking cup, and according to its measure we shall be filled. But even the measure of our faith may be a Divine one. Thank God, the little cup has become enlarged through the grace of Jesus, until from its bottom there flows a pipe into the great ocean, and if that connection is kept open we shall find that our cup is as large as the ocean and never can be drained to the bottom. For He has said to us, “Have the faith of God,” and surely this is an illimitable measure. Let us...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 10

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 10 Morning “Brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord.” Philemon This has been called “the polite epistle,” for Paul used great courtesy and tact in writing it. Onesimus, a slave, had robbed his master Philemon, and had then run away from him. Hoping to conceal himself best in the metropolis, Onesimus had fled to Rome, where he heard Paul preach and became converted. The apostle sent him back to his Christian master with the following letter of apology. Although its first object was only to restore a runaway slave to his master, it is a weighty letter, and every syllable has substance in it. Philemon 1:4-6 Paul knew Philemon was a true believer, and therefore prayed that others might feel the power of his piety, by seeing how he acted in the present case. Philemon 1:9 This is the best of pleading. Philemon’s heart would be sure to yield to it. Philemon 1:12 who is so dear to me that he carries my heart...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 10

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 10 “God Is Our Ally ” - Exodus 23:22 The LORD Christ in the midst of His people is to be acknowledged and obeyed. He is the vice-regent of God and speaks in the Father’s name, and it is ours implicitly and immediately to do as He commands. We shall lose the promise if we disregard the precept. To full obedience how large the blessing! The LORD enters into a league with His people, offensive and defensive. He will bless those who bless us and curse those who curse us. God will go heart and soul with His people and enter in deepest sympathy into their position. What a protection this affords us! We need not concern ourselves about our adversaries when we are assured that they have become the adversaries of God. If Jehovah has taken up our quarrel, we may leave the foemen in His hands. So far as our own interest is concerned we have no enemies; but for the cause of truth and righteousness we take up arms and...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 10th December 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 10th December 2024 12/10 Matthew 16:18 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Jesus had taken the disciples to a Roman city at the base of Mount Hermon. The Jordan River came from a cave at the foot of this mountain. The Romans had built a temple in front of the cave to worship their god Pan. In the niches carved in the face of the cliff were statues of Roman gods. It was an appropriate place for Jesus to ask the disciples if they understood who He is. Peter answered that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Jesus told Peter that he didn't come up with the thought on his own. The heavenly Father had revealed it to him. There are no punctuations in the language in which the Bible was written. Jesus went on to say that Peter, whose name is the masculine form for "rock" (Petros), was indeed a rock. The controversy in doctrine comes in whether ...

Worthy Brief - December 9, 2024

Worthy Brief - December 9, 2024 Have obedient faith! Hebrews 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they had been encircled for seven days. After spending forty years in the wilderness, the children of Israel crossed into the Promised Land arriving to immediately face what seemed an impregnable fortress and an impossible task. Imagine receiving the instruction to march around the fortified city seven times, then finally be commanded to shout with all your might and sound shofars! It seemed like such a ridiculous warfare strategy...and yet, this time, they followed the instructions, marching around the walled city of Jericho and on the 7th day, after 7 rounds, witnessed the miraculous collapse which opened the way to victory. Obeying the voice of the Lord in faith was met with His supernatural intervening power. The object lesson? Do what God says, follow His instructions, putting your faith into action! Faith that works is true faith, and it reveals the awesome God wh...

Today's Daily Encocunter Monday, December 9, 2024 My Soul is Satisfied in God What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ  " the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.1 God created us to be in relationship with Him. The kind of fellowship that Adam and Eve enjoyed with the Lord was also for us. But when sin entered the world, everything changed. God's relationship with humanity was damaged. But, as we know, that's not the end of the story. Christ came to die in our place, bringing forgiveness for our sins and restoring our relationship with the Heavenly Father. We are adopted into His family and belong to Him forever. He has provided us with everything we need to be by His side. ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 9

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for December 9 “The "All" of Belief ” - Mark 9:23 Our unbelief is the greatest hindrance in our way; in fact, there is no other real difficulty as to our spiritual progress and prosperity. The LORD can do everything; but when He makes a rule that according to our faith so shall it be unto us, our unbelief ties the hands of His omnipotence. Yes, the confederacies of evil shall be scattered if we can but believe. Despised truth shall lift its head if we will but have confidence in the God of truth. We can bear our load of trouble or pass uninjured through the waves of distress if we can gird our loins with the girdle of peace, that girdle which is buckled on by the hands of trust. What can we not believe? Is everything possible except believing in God? Yet He is always true; why do we not believe in Him? He is always faithful to His word; why can we not trust Him? When we are in a right state of heart, faith c...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 9

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 9 Morning “The Lord shall deliver me from every evil work.” 2 Timothy 4 The chapter opens with a most solemn charge to young Timothy. Coming from one who was so soon to seal his testimony with his blood, Timothy must have felt the power of it as long as he lived. Aged believers should impress upon the young the value of the gospel 2 Timothy 4:1 , 2 Timothy 4:2 A minister is never off duty: he is not only to win souls whenever an opportunity occurs, but he is himself to make opportunities. Sound doctrine and seal must go together in equal proportions. Dr. Ryland well said, “No sermon is likely to be useful which has not the three R’s in it Ruin by the Fall; Redemption by Christ; Regeneration by the Holy Spirit. My aim in every sermon is to call sinners, to quicken the saints, and to be made a blessing to all.” 2 Timothy 4:6 “I am already being poured out as a libation to God;” his sufferings had commenced,...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 9

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 9 “Launch out into the deep” (Luke 5:4) One of the special marks of the Holy Ghost in the Apostolic Church was the spirit of boldness. One of the most essential qualities of the faith that is to attempt great things for God and expect great things from God, is holy audacity. Where we are dealing with a supernatural Being, and taking from Him things that are humanly impossible, it is easier to take much than little; it is easier to stand in a place of audacious trust than in a place of cautious, timid clinging to the shore. Likewise seamen in the life of faith, let us launch out into the deep, and find that all things are possible with God, and all things are possible unto him that believeth. Let us to-day attempt great things for God, take His faith and believe for them and His strength to accomplish them. The mercy of God is an ocean divine, A boundless and fathomless flood; Launch out in the deep, cut away the shore-line, And be lo...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 9 Tozer in the Morning THE SECRET WORKING OF GOD I do believe in the secret and mysterious working of God in the human breast. I must believe it after finding the forgiving and converting grace of God in the Savior, Jesus Christ. My father and mother held high human standards, but completely without any thought of God. My parents appeared to be without any spark of desire after God; attitudes that were cold, earthy, profane. Can you tell me why, then, at the age of 17, as a boy surrounded by unbelief-l00 percent-I could find my way to my mother's attic, kneel on my knees, and give my heart and life in committal to Jesus Christ? I cannot tell you why. I can only say that I know there is such a thing as the secret workings of God within the human being who has a sensitivity to hear the call of God. In my own case, I do have the testimony that my conversion to Jesus Christ was as real as any man's conversion has ever bee...

The answer is to be found in the word "achieving"; these things are achieving for us something precious. They are teaching us not only the way to victory, but better still the laws of victory. There is a compensation in every sorrow, and the sorrow is working out the compensation. It is the cry of the dear old hymn: "Nearer my God to Thee, nearer to Thee, E’’en tho’’ it be a cross that raiseth me." Joy sometimes needs pain to give it birth. Fanny Crosby could never have written her beautiful hymn, "I shall see Him face to face," were it not for the fact that she had never looked upon the green fields nor the evening ...

True Vine Devotional for December 9

True Vine Devotional for December 9 “ As the Branch Cannot Bear Fruit of Itself, Except It Abide In the Vine; No More Can Ye, Except Ye Abide in Me ” - John 15:4 We know the meaning of the word except. It expresses some indispensable condition, some inevitable law. “The branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine. No more can ye, except ye abide in me.” There is but one way for the branch to bear fruit, there is no other possibility, it must abide in unbroken communion with the vine. Not of itself, but only of the vine, does the fruit come. Christ had already said: “Abide in me”; in nature the branch teaches us the lesson so clearly; it is such a wonderful privilege to be called and allowed to abide in the heavenly Vine; one might have thought it needless to add these words of warning. But no—Christ knows so well what a renunciation of self is implied in this: “Abide in me”; how strong and universal the tendency would be to seek to bear fruit by our own efforts...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 9th December 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 9th December 2024 12/9 Matthew 16:6 6 Jesus said to them, "Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." The Pharisees and the Sadducees were the two main groups of religious leaders of Judaism in Jesus' day. While they differed quite a bit on doctrine, they did have one thing in common. They thought they were above the common people. They referred to most of the common people as "sinners." That would imply that these leaders thought they were not sinners. They even dressed in a way that would set them apart and did not want others to touch them. Instead of being humbled by the Scriptures they knew, they were proud that they knew so much. The passage goes on to say that Jesus was referring to their teaching, but we can see in other passages that Jesus also warned them regarding their behavior. They loved honorary titles and the respect of man. They made a show of their prayers and other religious obligations, bu...

True Vine Devotional for December 8

True Vine Devotional for December 8 “ Abide in Me, and I in You ” - John 15:4 When a new graft is placed in a vine and it abides there, there is a twofold process that takes place. The first is in the wood. The graft shoots its little roots and fibers down into the stem, and the stem grows up into the graft, and what has been called the structural union is effected. The graft abides and becomes one with the vine, and even though the vine were to die, would still be one wood with it. Then there is the second process, in which the sap of the vine enters the new structure, and uses it as a passage through which sap can flow up to show itself in young shoots and leaves and fruit. Here is the vital union. Into the graft which abides in the stock, the stock enters with sap to abide in it. When our Lord says: “Abide in me, and I in you,” He points to something analogous to this. “Abide in me”: that refers more to that which we have to do. We have to trust and obey, to detach ourselves fr...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for December 8

Streams in the Desert Devotional for December 8 "Put on as the elect of God, kindness" (Colossians 3:12). There is a story of an old man who carried a little can of oil with him everywhere he went, and if he passed through a door that squeaked, he poured a little oil on the hinges. If a gate was hard to open, he oiled the latch. And thus he passed through life lubricating all hard places and making it easier for those who came after him. People called him eccentric, queer, and cranky; but the old man went steadily on refilling his can of oil when it became empty, and oiled the hard places he found. There are many lives that creak and grate harshly as they live day by day. Nothing goes right with them. They need lubricating with the oil of gladness, gentleness, or thoughtfulness. Have you your own can of oil with you? Be ready with your oil of helpfulness in the early morning to the one nearest you. It may lubricate the whole day for him. The oil, of good cheer to the downhea...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 8

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for December 8 Tozer in the Morning THE PRESENCE OF GOD The spiritual giants of old were those who at some time became acutely conscious of the presence of God. They maintained that consciousness for the rest of their lives. How otherwise can the saints and prophets be explained? How otherwise can we account for the amazing power for good they have exercised over countless generations? Is it not that indeed they had become friends of God? Is it not that they walked in conscious communion with the real Presence and addressed their prayers to God with the artless conviction that they were truly addressing Someone actually there? Let me say it again, for certainly it is no secret: we do God honor in believing what He has said about Himself and coming boldly to His throne of grace than by hiding in a self-conscious humility! Those unlikely men chosen by our Lord as His closest disciples might well have hesitated to claim friendship with C...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 8

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for December 8 “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?” (Jeremiah 8:22) Divine healing is just divine life. It is the headship of Christ over the body. It is the life of Christ in the frame. It is the union of our members with the very body of Christ and the inflowing life of Christ in our living members. It is as real as His risen and glorified body. It is as reasonable as the fact that He was raised from the dead and is a living man with a true body and a rational soul to-day, at God’s right hand. That living Christ belongs to us in all His attributes and powers. We are members of His body, His flesh and His bones, and if we can only believe and receive it, we may live upon the very life of the Son of God. Lord, help me to know the “Lord for the body and the body for the Lord.” There is healing in the promise, There is healing in the blood, There is strength for all our weakness In the risen Son of God. And the feeblest of His...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 8

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for December 8 Morning “Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2 2 Timothy 2:1-4 Soldiers must be free from other business, and it is well for ministers not to encumber themselves with any other pursuit, but give themselves wholly to their Master’s work. If so, their people must see that they are supplied with all they need, even as a nation sees that its soldiers have their rations and all other necessaries. 2 Timothy 2:8 , 2 Timothy 2:9 This was his consolation, he was bound, but the gospel was not. 2 Timothy 2:10-13 Here we have another Christian proverb, and in fact a hymn of the early church. It should be learned by heart, and often quoted by us. 2 Timothy 2:14-16 We must keep clear of mystifyings, spiritualizings, traditions, and idle controversies. Plain sailing is best for Christian men. 2 Timothy 2:19 The sentences inscribed upon the seal are precious and practical: ther...
