Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 31

Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 31 "Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed" (John 20:29). How strong is the snare of the things that are seen, and how necessary for God to keep us in the things that axe unseen! If Peter is to walk on the water he must walk; if he is going to swim, he must swim, but he cannot do both. If the bird is going to fly it must keep away from fences and the trees, and trust to its buoyant wings. But if it tries to keep within easy reach of the ground, it will make poor work of flying. God had to bring Abraham to the end of his own strength, and to let him see that in his own body he could do nothing. He had to consider his own body as good as dead, and then take God for the whole work; and when he looked away from himself, and trusted God alone, then he became fully persuaded that what He had promised, He was able to perform. That is what God is teaching us, and He has to keep away encouraging results until we learn to...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 31

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 31 “Lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalms 139:24) There is often apparently but little difference in two distinct lives between constant victory and frequent victory. But that one little difference constitutes a world of success or failure. The one is the Divine, the other is the human; the one is the everlasting way, the other the transient and the imperfect. God wants to lead us to the way everlasting, and to establish us and make us immovable as He. We little know the seriousness of the slightest surrender. It is but the first step in a downward progression, and God only knows where it shall end. Let us be “not of them that draw back unto perdition, but of them that believe unto the saving our the soul.” Your victory to-day is but preparing the way for a greater victory to-morrow, and your surrender to-day is opening the door for a more terrible defeat in the days to come. Let us, therefore, whatever we have claimed from our bless...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 31

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 31 Morning “He marvelled because of their unbelief.” Matthew 13:31-33 , Matthew 13:44-58 Our loving Lord has left us many priceless parables, in which great truths are made plain to our understandings. He deserves our love for thus condescending to our dulness. Matthew 13:31 , Matthew 13:32 Mustard of this kind is common in Palestine. Nothing at its commencement could be smaller, or less conspicuous, than the church of Christ; nothing in the end shall be so great and honourable. Already many happy souls, like birds, are resting in its branches. Matthew 13:33 Silently, mysteriously, and potently it works, and so do good or evil influences in society. Matthew 13:45 , Matthew 13:46 The first man is the suddenly converted sinner, who finds Jesus, though he looked not for him; the second is the diligent seeker, who at last discovers Jesus for whom he had sought. They both agree in setting the highest value upon ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 31

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 31 “Divine, Ever-Living, Unchanging ” - 1 Peter 1:25 All human teaching and, indeed, all human beings shall pass away as the grass of the meadow; but we are here assured that the Word of the LORD is of a very different character, for it shall endure forever. We have here a divine gospel; for what word can endure forever but that which is spoken by the eternal God? We have here an ever-living gospel, as full of vitality as when it first came from the lips of God; as strong to convince and convert, to regenerate and console, to sustain and sanctify as ever it was in its first days of wonder-working. We have an unchanging gospel which is not today green grass and tomorrow dry hay but always the abiding truth of the immutable Jehovah. Opinions alter, but truth certified by God can no more change than the God who uttered it. Here, then, we have a gospel to rejoice in, a word of the LORD upon which we may lean al...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 31

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 31 Tozer in the Morning GLORIOUS CONTRADICTIONS God has revealed so many glorious contradictions in the lives and conduct of genuine Christian believers that it is small wonder that we are such an amazement to this world. The Christian is dead and yet he lives forever. He died to himself and yet he lives in Christ. The Christian saves his own life by losing it and he is in danger of losing it by trying to save it. It is strange but true that the Christian is strongest when he is weakest and weakest when he is strongest. When he gets down on his knees thinking he is weak, he is always strong. The Christian is in least danger when he is fearful and trusting God and in the most danger when he feels the most self-confident. He is most sinless when he feels the most sinful and he is the most sinful when he feels the most sinless. The Christian actually has the most when he is giving away the most; and in all of these ways, the Christ...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 31st August 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 31st August 2024 8/31 Song of Songs 1:4 4 Draw me after you; let us run. The king has brought me into his chambers. OTHERS We will exult and rejoice in you; we will extol your love more than wine; rightly do they love you. The Song of Songs is thought to be a love poem between Solomon and his bride. As Solomon is the son of David and the consummate Son of David is Jesus, it is also seen as the love of Christ and His bride, the church. The apostle Paul believed that the love of a husband and wife pictured that of Christ and all believers (Ephesians 5:32). Our verse for today is in the voice of the bride. If you are a follower of Jesus, it can be your voice. It is the lovesick bride wanting to be alone with her man. She asks Him to draw her after Him. She does not want the distraction of others to hinder them. She longs to hurry to a place where they can be alone together. The others sing a chorus. They are joyful and rejoicing in the King. They value His ...

Daily Christian Quote 31st August 2024

Daily Christian Quote 31st August 2024 Darlene Cunningham August 31, 2024 I sometimes throw out this thought-provoking question to unsuspecting audiences: “Which one is more spiritual – raising the dead or washing the dishes?” Nearly always, someone blurts out, “raising the dead!” Then he or she backtracks on their response. Honestly, that is the automatic inward response of most everyone. We believe it is more “spiritual” to do something supernatural, when the simple answer is that it’s more pleasing to God to do whatever He asks. So it can be far more spiritual and pleasing to God to do the dishes, if that is what the Father asks of us. https://dailychristianquote.com

Worthy Brief - August 30, 2024

Worthy Brief - August 30, 2024 Keep your nose to the grindstone! 2 Timothy 2:20-22 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.  Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. A grindstone is a revolving disk made of stone which is used for grinding, polishing or sharpening. It can commonly be seen grinding down wheat or sharpening and polishing metal for various purposes. At first glance, this information may not seem all that interesting to you. However, a wise man once compared life to a grindstone. He said -- whether life grinds us down or polishes us up depends on what we’re made of! So… here’s a question. What are we made of? Is life grinding us down to piec...

Today's  Daily Encounter Friday, August 30, 2024 Surrendering to His Way Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.1 William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, once said, "The greatness of a man's power is in the measure of his surrender." Known for making the poor his main ministry, Booth credited all of his success to the complete surrender of his life to the Lord Jesus Christ — body, heart and soul. In his diary, he wrote: "God shall have all there is of William Booth". He understood the Lord's calling on his life and had he lived in the days when Jesus was choosing His disciples, William Booth would not have hesitated to leave all and follow his Lord. In Matthew 8, Jesus was faced with excuses when calling out the men that would be his disciples. "FIRST, let me go do this or that" or "BUT, I…" Jesus was seeking those who would leave everything, surrender...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th August 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th August 2024 8/30 Ecclesiastes 7:2 2 It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for this is the end of all mankind, and the living will lay it to heart. Pastors have the responsibility to marry and bury. When I began in ministry, I did not look forward to officiating at funerals. Now I value the responsibility and opportunity to speak when we are celebrating the past life of a believer. It is the one time when their friends and family, who don't know what it is to have the comfort of salvation, stop long enough to consider their own mortality. We know we will all die. What will be said about us? What did we really accomplish? Did we touch any lives enough for them to want to say something? Then the unbeliever has to consider what motivated our love. They also have to face the fact that their belief system does not deal with death in the way Christianity does. We have a wonderful hope based on Jesus' state...

Streams in the Desert Devotional: August 30th

Streams in the Desert Devotional: August 30th "They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; these see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep" (Psalms 107:23-24). He is but an apprentice and no master in the art, who has not learned that every wind that blows is fair for Heaven. The only thing that helps nobody, is a dead calm. North or south, cast or west, it matters not, every wind may help towards that blessed port. Seek one thing only: keep well out to sea, and then have no fear of stormy winds. Let our prayer be that of an old Cornishman: "O Lord, send us out to sea-- out in the deep water. Here we are so close to the rocks that the first bit of breeze with the devil, we are all knocked to pieces. Lord, send us out to sea-- out in the deep water, where we shall have room enough to get a glorious victory."-- Mark Guy Pearse. Remember that we have no more faith at any time than we have in the hour of trial. All that will no...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: August 30th

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional: August 30th “Happy are ye if ye do them” (John 13:17) You little know the rest that comes from the yielded will, the surrendered choice, the abandoned world, the meek and lowly heart that lets the world go by, and knows that it shall inherit the earth which it has refused! You little know the relish that it gives to the blessing to hunger and thirst after righteousness, and to be filled with a satisfaction that worldly delight cannot afford, and then to rise to the higher blessedness of the merciful, the forgiving, the hearts that have learned that it is “more blessed to give than to receive,” and the lives that find that “letting go is twice possessing,” and blessing others is to be doubly blessed! Nay, there is yet one jewel brighter than all the rest in this crown of beatitudes. It is the tear-drop crystallized into the diamond, the blood-drop transfigured into the ruby of heaven’s eternal crown. It is the joy of suffering with Jesus, and the...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional: August 30th

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional: August 30th Morning “My word shall not return unto Me void.” Matthew 13:1-23 Matthew 13:1 , Matthew 13:2 A most delightful instance of out-of-door preaching, of which the more the better, for without it great numbers of our fellowmen will never hear the gospel. The natural objects around him no doubt supplied the Lord with his illustrations, and these were so homely and full of meaning, that they arrested the attention of all. Matthew 13:3 , Matthew 13:4 the way side on the trodden pathway Matthew 13:5 , Matthew 13:6 Some fell upon stony places or spots where the rock was near the surface Matthew 13:11 Carnal minds foolishly put a literal meaning upon expressions which are evidently figurative, and so discern not the meaning. To understand the gospel is a gift of divine grace. Matthew 13:12-15 Those who will not see may expect to fall into such a state that they cannot see. Matthew 13:23 Four bad soils are mentioned,...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: August 30th

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional: August 30th “Solace, Security, Satisfaction ” - 2 Samuel 23:5 This is not so much one promise as an aggregate of promises -- a box of pearls. the covenant is the ark which contains all things. These are the last words of David, but they may be mine today. Here is a sigh: things are not with me and mine as I could wish; there are trials, cares, and sins. These make the pillow hard. Here is a solace -- "He hath made with me an everlasting covenant." Jehovah has pledged Himself to me, and sealed the compact with the blood of Jesus. I am bound to my God and my God to me. This brings into prominence a security, since this covenant is everlasting, well ordered, and sure. There is nothing to fear from the lapse of time, the failure of some forgotten point, or the natural uncertainty of things. The covenant is a rocky foundation to build on for life or for death. David feels satisfaction: he wants no more for salva...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: August 30th Tozer in the Morning Personal Commitment to Growth There comes a time when the true believer must take his stand on the oath and covenant of God and refuse to be shaken. He must lift high his happy affirmation, not in arrogance, but in faith and in deep humility. Perhaps his declaration of independence will go something like this: I am not yet perfect, but I thank God and my Lord Jesus Christ that I am done with the past and I do now trust in my Savior for full deliverance from all my sins. I cannot pray like Daniel, but I shall never cease to praise God that He inclines His ear to me. I am not as wise as Solomon, but I glory in this, that "I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day" (2 Timothy 1:12). I have not the gifts of Moses or Isaiah or John, but I'll be everlastingly grateful that I have been given the moral perception to understand and...

Worthy Brief - August 29, 2024

Worthy Brief - August 29, 2024 Destroy it before it starts! 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; As we've been traveling around the U.S., we've been trying to take extra care of ourselves, taking vitamins and washing our hands regularly to avoid getting sick. This got me thinking about God's design of the human immune system. Our immune system is designed to be proactive, not passive. Whenever germs, viruses, or bacteria invade our bodies, our immune system seeks to destroy them before they become a problem. Spiritually speaking, I think we can learn a little something from God's amazing design. When it comes to our thought life, we, too, need to be...

Today's Daily Encounter Thursday, August 29, 2024 Faith Like a Mustard Seed "Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment. Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, 'Why couldn't we drive it out?' He replied, 'Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there', and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."1 In Matthew 17:20, the Lord Jesus says to His disciples, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there', and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." These words should serve as an encouragement to us all. Can you hear the power in them? Remember that a small seed of faith can unleash extraordinary possibilities. What matters is not the size of our faith, but the object of it, that i...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 29

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 29 Tozer in the Morning Pursuing Truth One of the great religious thinkers of this century has pointed out a strange contradiction in the mental attitude of our times--our eager love of knowledge and our universal neglect of truth. That men love knowledge is too well demonstrated to need proof, if by knowledge we mean facts, know-how, statistics, technical information, scientific and mechanical skills. Our printing presses are constantly rolling out books crammed with useful information. Our schools are bulging with eager students bent on acquiring all possible knowledge in the shortest possible time. Among the most popular and lucrative radio programs on the air today are those designed to discover how many unrelated bits of information the participants possess. "Who? What? When? Where?" run the endless questions, and the impression is created that the one who can answer the greatest number is in some way a superior ...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 29

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 29 “Plentiful Refreshment ” - Jeremiah 31:12 Oh, to have one’s soul under heavenly cultivation; no longer a wilderness but a garden of the LORD! Enclosed from the waste, walled around by grace, planted by instruction, visited by love, weeded by heavenly discipline, and guarded by divine power, one’s favored soul is prepared to yield fruit unto the LORD. But a garden may become parched for want of water, and then all its herbs decline and are ready to die. O my soul, how soon would this be the case were the LORD to leave thee! In the East, a garden without water soon ceases to be a garden at all: nothing can come to perfection, grow, or even live. When irrigation is kept up, the result is charming. Oh, to have one’s soul watered by the Holy Spirit uniformly -- every part of the garden having its own stream; plentifully -- a sufficient refreshment coming to every tree and herb, however thirsty by nature it ma...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 29

Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 29 "And he went out carrying his own cross" (John 19:17). There is a poem called "The Changed Cross." It represents a weary one who thought that her cross was surely heavier than those of others whom she saw about her, and she wished that she might choose an other instead of her own. She slept, and in her dream she was led to a place where many crosses lay, crosses of different shapes and sizes. There was a little one most beauteous to behold, set in jewels and gold. "Ah, this I can wear with comfort," she said. So she took it up, but her weak form shook beneath it. The jewels and the gold were beautiful, but they were far too heavy for her. Next she saw a lovely cross with fair flowers entwined around its sculptured form. Surely that was the one for her. She lifted it, but beneath the flowers were piercing thorns which tore her flesh. At last, as she went on, she came to a plain cross, without jewels, without c...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 29

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 29 Morning “The tree is known by its fruit.” Matthew 12:22-37 Matthew 12:22 It would seem that the devil had special licence to do his worst among men during the days of our Lord’s sojourn upon earth. Thus was he the more gloriously defeated by the Son of God in many pitched battles between the two champions. Matthew 12:23 They spoke honestly, but their leaders were prejudiced, and refused to see what was clear enough to the most ordinary understandings. It is a dreadful thing to be so warped by. education as to refuse to admit what is plain to all. Matthew 12:27-29 For some of the sons of the Pharisees pretended to be able to heal possessed persons. Matthew 12:30 Let this always be remembered, and let each one ask himself, “Am I with Christ?” If not, remember you are against him. Can you bear this? Matthew 12:31 , Matthew 12:32 A terrible doom which fell upon these Pharisees and destroyed them. How careful ...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 29

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 29 “To obey is better than sacrifice” (1 Samuel 15:22) Our healing is thus represented as a special recompense for obedience. If, therefore, we would please the Lord and have the reward of those who please Him, there is no service so acceptable to Him as our praise. Let us ever meet Him with a glad and thankful heart and He will reflect it back in the health of our countenance and the buoyant life and springing health, which is but the echo of a joyful heart. Further, thankfulness is the best preparation for faith. Trust grows spontaneously in the praiseful heart. Thankfulness takes the sunny side of the street and looks at the bright side of God, and it is only thus that we can ever trust Him. Unbelief looks at our troubles and, of course, they seem like mountains, and faith is discouraged by the prospect. A thankful disposition will always find some cause for cheer, and gloomy one will find a cloud in the brightest sky and a fly in the sw...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th August 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th August 2024 8/29 Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 24 There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, 25 for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment? This book of wisdom is attributed to Solomon. His main theme is that though he was able to pursue every possible course of pleasure, and found every one was vanity. Several times he tells us that it is the simple pleasures that are a gift from God for everyone (Ecclesiastes 3:13,22; 5:18; 8:15). He calls the other pursuits "chasing after the wind" (Ecclesiastes 1:14; 2:17; 4:4; 6:9). To be satisfied in the simple pleasures of life, as well as being grateful for them, are a gifts from God. Whatever our calling or occupation, we can find enjoyment in our toil, or we can dwell on disappointments and other longings. Coveting what other people have or do is the sure path to depression. Solomon had th...

Daily Christian Quote 29th August 2024

Daily Christian Quote 29th August 2024 Charles Stanley August 29, 2024 Renewing the mind is a little like refinishing furniture. It is a two-stage process. It involves taking off the old and replacing it with the new. The old is the lies you have learned to tell or were taught by those around you; it is the attitudes and ideas that have become a part of your thinking but do not reflect reality. The new is the truth. To renew your mind is to involve yourself in the process of allowing God to bring to the surface the lies you have mistakenly accepted and replace them with truth. To the degree that you do this, your behavior will be transformed. https://dailychristianquote.com

Worthy Brief - August 28, 2024

Worthy Brief - August 28, 2024 A little Korean history lesson … Ecclesiastes 1:9-10  That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. 10  Is there anything of which it may be said, "See, this is new"? It has already been in ancient times before us. A century ago, Pyongyang, North Korea's capital, was a thriving center of Christianity, earning the nickname "Jerusalem of the East." The early 1900s saw rapid Christian growth, especially after the 1907 Pyongyang Revival, sparked by a meeting between Western missionaries and local believers. At its peak, about 30% of the population were practicing Christians, and the city was filled with thousands of churches. Then came the Japanese occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945, which was a tough time for Christians. The Japanese were openly hostile toward them, imprisoning many and even martyring some. Despite these challenges, the faith held strong. The ...

Today's Daily Encounter Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Destruction Invited "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."1 Vernon Eaton, commenting on the book, Ways of the Ant, by John Crompton, writes: "A pleasure-mad society needs to take a lesson from the Sanguine ants and their affair with the Golden-Haired beetle. "The ants' normal diet is plain, often to the point of austerity, but they love unusual and exotic tidbits and will go to any lengths to satisfy this craving. For example, the Golden-Haired beetle exudes from the base of its golden hairs some secretion which ants find irresistible. So it is allowed to do anything it likes, even lay its own eggs, which soon turn to grubs. So besotted and obsessed do the worker ants become that they feed the beetle with food intended for their own infants, and even with food reserved for the queen. "Worse, much worse, they allow the beetle to kill their infants a...

Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 28

Streams in the Desert Devotional for August 28 "There he proved them" (Exodus 15:25). I stood once in the test room of a great steel mill. All around me were little partitions and compartments. Steel had been tested to the limit, and marked with figures that showed its breaking point. Some pieces had been twisted until they broke, and the strength of torsion was marked on them. Some had been stretched to the breaking point and their tensile strength indicated. Some had been compressed to the crushing point, and also marked. The master of the steel mill knew just what these pieces of steel would stand under strain. He knew just what they would bear if placed in the great ship, building, or bridge. He knew this because his testing room revealed it. It is often so with God’s children. God does not want us to be like vases of glass or porcelain. He would have us like these toughened pieces of steel, able to bear twisting and crushing to the uttermost without collapse. He wants u...

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 28

Days of Heaven on Earth Devotional for August 28 “According to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20) When we reach the place of union with God, through the indwelling of the Holy Ghost, we come into the inheritance of external blessing and enter upon the land of our possession. Then our physical health and strength come to us through the power of our interior life; then the prayer is fulfilled, that we shall be in health and prosper, as our soul prospereth. Then, with the kingdom of God and His righteousness within us, all things are added unto us. God’s external working always keeps pace with the power that worketh in us. When God is enthroned in a human soul, then the devil and the world soon find it out. We do not need to advertise our power. Jesus could not be hid, and a soul filled with Divine power and purity should become the center of attraction to hungry hearts and suffering lives. Let us receive Him and recognize Him in His indwelling glory, and then will we app...

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for August 28 Morning “All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me.” Matthew 11:20-30 The remarkable portion of Scripture which we are about to read contains in a small space the three great truths of human responsibility, the sovereignty of electing love, and the free proclamation of the gospel. If we cannot reconcile them, we must, nevertheless, believe them, and wait for clearer light. Matthew 11:20 Therefore it is clear that they ought to have repented. Jesus would not have upbraided them for impenitence, if penitence were not their duty. Matthew 11:21 A very mysterious statement, since it involves the singular fact that the mighty works were not done among those who would have repented, and were done among those who refused to repent. The way of the Lord is far above the comprehension of men. Matthew 11:22 Though as to open sin the Sidonians were beyond measure vile, yet they were not so guilty as those who ha...

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 28

Charles Spurgeon's "Faith's Checkbook" Devotional for August 28 “Out of Any Circumstance ” - Psalms 55:16 Yes, I must and will pray. What else can I do! What better can I do? Betrayed, forsaken, grieved, baffled, O my LORD, I will call upon Thee. My Ziklag is in ashes, and men speak of stoning me; but I encourage my heart in the LORD, who will bear me through this trial as He has borne me through so many others. Jehovah shall save me; I am sure He will, and I declare my faith. The LORD and no one else shall save me. I desire no other helper and would not trust in an arm of flesh even if I could. I will cry to Him evening, and morning, and noon, and I will cry to no one else, for He is all sufficient. How He will save me I cannot guess; but He will do it, I know. He will do it in the best and surest way, and He will do it in the largest, truest, and fullest sense. Out of this trouble and all future troubles the great I AM will bring me as surely as He lives; and when ...

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 28

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional for August 28 Tozer in the Morning Stumble Causers When we are first converted, especially if we come from a non-Christian background, we are likely to be almost too naive for our own good. The wondrous experience through which we have just passed, or perhaps I should say into which we have entered, has predisposed us to believe in everybody. Our trust in other Christians is likely to be boundless. That there could be hypocrites, double-minded professors, religious pretenders, carnal camp followers, never once enters our minds. The result is that our first encounter with a worldly church member comes as a frightful shock to our sensitive minds. Some never recover from this shattering of their confidence. They become religious cripples. Their growth is stunted and their usefulness destroyed, or at the least greatly hindered from that moment on. That I speak truly here may be proved by everyday experience; but there is a more sure word of Sc...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th August 2024

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th August 2024 8/28 Proverbs 31:30 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Charm can be a learned skill to make a person seem more friendly and gracious than they really are. Only by spending time with a person in his or her daily life can you see the real person. Beauty is meaningless. The most beautiful person can be a beast in his or her heart. Beauty is often accompanied with a demanding spirit of pride. If outward beauty is not accompanied with inward beauty, it is a trap for those who idolize looks. Wealthy men are often seen accompanied with a "trophy wife." The beautiful women on their arms are meant to be a symbol of their success. In reality, it is a symbol of the vanity of seeking satisfaction in this world. It isn't long before we read of their divorce and the large settlement the woman receives. The reason the pattern is repeated time and time again is that man is fallen and...
