Worthy Brief - November 30, 2022

Worthy Brief - November 30, 2022 A pearl of wisdom for you! Romans 8:37-39 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Some time ago, we wrote about pearl harvesting -- how, like the oyster, God takes us in, an irritating grain of sand, and over time covers us with His beautiful covering that we may become more precious and more valuable for His Kingdom. But here is another interesting thought. Once the pearl is ready, a great price must be paid to see its beauty -- the oyster must die. It must be torn open in order to find the treasure within. Hmmm. Our Messiah was bruised and He was afflicted. He was torn for us, that we could become the beautiful treasure God intended from the very beginni...

Today's Daily Encounter 30th November 2022

Today's Daily Encounter 30th November 2022 Doing the Best with What You Have   "Then the LORD said to him [Moses], 'What is that in your hand?'"1 The following story appeared in The Houston Chronicle. I have since learned that this is reported to be an urban legend and may not be true. However, as a parable it has a message in that all of us need to do the best we can with what we have. On November 18, 1995, Itzhak Perlman, the violinist, performed a concert at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. Itzhak was stricken with polio as a child; has braces on both legs and has to use two crutches to help him walk, so it is quite a chore for him to come onto any stage. Barely had he started his concert when one of the strings on his violin broke. The snap was so loud, there was no mistake among the audience as to what happened. Instead of the arduous task of leaving the stage to change the broken string or get another violin, Itzhak "waited a moment...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th November 2022

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 30th November 2022 Morning November 30 Isaiah 40:25-27 25"To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One. 26Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"? What will you compare God to? What or who has always been? Who is unchanging throughout eternity? How ridiculous to think we could make some image of our infinite Creator! How arrogant to think that we could give Him advice or suggest a better way than that which He has chosen! Look at the stars on a clear night sky. You know you can see only a small fraction of them, and yet, God has each one set just where he would place it. It is there at His command and exists for His purposes...

A Bible Devotion Wednesday, November 30, 2022

A Bible Devotion Wednesday, November 30, 2022 God Is Not A Liar NUMBERS 23:19 ICB 19 God is not a man. He will not lie. God is not a human being. He does not change his mind. What he says he will do, he does. What he promises, he keeps. Too many of us judge God by ourselves, or those we normally deal with. Unfortunately, honesty is scarce today. We are accustomed to people lying to us. But God is different. He does not lie. Not ever. TITUS 1:2 NKJ 2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, SAY THIS: My God is not a liar. He will do what He said He would do. Worthy Brief - November 29, 2022

Worthy Brief - November 29, 2022 What smells? John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. I came across a powerful parable written by a Haitian pastor illustrating to his congregation the need for total commitment to the Lord. A certain man wanted to sell his house for two thousand dollars. Another man wanted very badly to buy it but couldn't afford the full price the owner was asking. After much bargaining, however, he agreed to sell the house to the poor man for half the original price -- along with just one stipulation: He would retain ownership of one small nail protruding from just over the door. After several years, the original owner wanted the house back, but the new owner was unwilling to sell. So the first owner went out, found the carcass of a dead dog and hung it from the single nail he still owned. Soon the house became unlivable and the family was force...

Today's Daily Encounter 29th November 2022

Today's Daily Encounter 29th November 2022 Being Satisfied “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”1 A lady's grandson was playing in the water, she was standing on the beach not wanting to get her feet wet, when all of a sudden, a huge wave appeared from nowhere and crashed directly over the spot where the boy was wading. The water receded and the boy was no longer there. He simply vanished. She held her hands to the sky, screamed and cried, "Lord, how could you? Have I not been a wonderful mother and grandmother? Have I not tried my very best to live a life that you would be proud of?" A few minutes later another huge wave appeared out of nowhere and crashed on the beach. As the water receded, the boy was standing there, smiling, splashing around as if nothing had ever happened. A loud voice boomed from the sky, "Okay, okay, I have returned your grandson. Are you satisfied?" She responded, "He had ...

This Day's Thought 29th November 2022

This Day's Thought 29th November 2022 On January 12, 1723, I made a solemn dedication of myself to God, and wrote it down; giving up myself, and all that I had to God; to be for the future, in no respect, my own; to act as one that had no right to be himself, in any respect.  And solemnly vowed to take God for my whole portion and felicity; looking on nothing else, as any part of my happiness, nor acting as if it were; and his law for the constant rule of my obedience: engaging to fight against the world, the flesh and the devil, to the end of my life. Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th November 2022

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 29th November 2022 Morning November 29 Isaiah 26:19-21 19But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. 20Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. 21See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer. In Isaiah 26 the prophet contrasts the hopelessness of the world with the hope of the people of God. He tells us that the world's great ones come and go and are soon forgotten. Their kingdoms rise and fall. God disciplines them, but they do not learn. He chastens them, but they refuse instruction. The people of God are different. When God deals with them, they learn righteousness. Though they are oppressed ...

A Bible Devotion Tuesday, November 29, 2022

A Bible Devotion Tuesday, November 29, 2022 How To Change ROMANS 12:2a NLT 2 Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Many people would like to see change in their life. But how? To change the way you act, you must first change the way you think. Because you act like the person you think you are. But to change your thinking, you will need to focus on different information. Our beliefs are the cause of our actions. So to permanently change behavior, beliefs must be changed. A belief is a thought you have decided to accept as truth. You choose your beliefs. Then your beliefs determine your actions. You always act on what you believe. As long as you think something is advantageous for you, you will keep doing it. When you realize something is not advantageous for you, you will stop it. You may argue with this, thinking that you sometimes do things you know are not good for you. But you only do them if...

Christian Quote of the Day - The Only Thing Left Standing Will Be His Kingdom

Image
Christian Quote of the Day - The Only Thing Left Standing Will Be His Kingdom History isn’t stagnant and is not going in circles. It’s approaching a definite climax, a sudden stop, a glorious consummation. This is no fairy tale! It is a certain fact, for God has declared it. This earth is in the middle of a universal shakedown. Christ is shaking this present age apart; and at the end of history, the ONLY thing left standing will be His Kingdom! — Joe Morecraft, III Pastor, Heritage Presbyterian Church, Cumming, GA Author, Authentic Christianity: An Exposition of the Theology and Ethics of the Westminster Larger Catechism More quotes by Joe Morecraft III - https://www.christianquote.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/r/christianquote/022740709121/783e636376316b900ae8601195570e1b/

Today's Daily Encounter 28th November 2022

Today's Daily Encounter 28th November 2022 It Takes A Village “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.”1 As an educator, we were often reminded of the importance of children having a “village” in their lives to help them succeed. This refers to a group of people who will work together for the wellbeing of the child. People who will teach, love, and guide this child. People who will be an example for them. In my years of teaching, I was able to witness firsthand the difference it made in the overall development of the child when this “village” was present. The idea of being surrounded by people to help you is something that God desires for us. We see examples of this often throughout the Bible. The most influential leaders had helpers who supported and encouraged them. Even Jesus had twelve disciples who he shared life with! One of my favorite stories in the Bible is when Moses is holding his hands up as Joshua and the Israelite army were fighting t...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th November 2022

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 28th November 2022 Morning November 28 Isaiah 26:3 3You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Isaiah spent the previous chapters telling of all the destruction that was to come to Judah and the surrounding nations. Then he looked forward in time to when the nation of God's people will enter their holy city. The walls and ramparts are salvation. God wipes away every tear from their eyes. It is the nation of believers who will not forsake their faith in God. Because of that faith God keeps them in perfect peace. The world goes through changes and turmoil. Nations rise and fall. So much of our sense of security is in the flimsiest of things, but those whose minds are steadfast, seeing the sovereignty of God, and the love and faithfulness of God, have perfect peace. Perfect peace is not circumstantial. It is much deeper than passing things. They trust that God never changes. They trust that the love that He has...

A Bible Devotion Monday, November 28, 2022

A Bible Devotion Monday, November 28, 2022 Does God Supply Only What We Need? What is a need? Who is qualified to determine what is a need? Is it something essential? What is essential? Essential to what? To survival? To health? (Physical health only, or mental and emotional health, as well?) Are essentials universal? Or do they vary from person to person, or from country to country, or from age to age? Is having more than just my essential, survival needs met proof of my greed or selfishness? If God will only meet our needs, why do some Christians have more than they need? How did they get it? Did the devil give it to them? If God only meets the needs of Christians, who will ever have any extra to give to others? What is need and what is greed; what is too much and what is just right? Are you qualified to judge? For yourself? For me? For someone in a different country? For all people? Is it wrong for a Christian to accept a job paying more than a survival wage? Should they only work p...

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 27th Novembeer 2022 Morning November 27 Isaiah 9:6-7 6For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. In the midst of all of Isaiah's prophecies of doom and gloom, he predicted a bright hope. He begins chapter 9 telling us the region of the coming Messiah's ministry will be humbled now but honored in the future. He says they will see a great light and have joy. Why this turn around? A child will be born. God will be incarnated. A son will be given to us, the Son of God. The government of the Kingdom of God is on his shoulders. One day all governme...

A Bible Devotion Sunday, November 27, 2022

A Bible Devotion Sunday, November 27, 2022 How Many Times Should I Ask God For Something? The answer to this question is that you should ask until you get the answer. When you believe you have the answer, it would be silly to ask again. But how should you determine when you get the answer? What evidence will you require to believe you have the answer? What will God have to do before you will believe He has granted your request? Will God need to send an angel to tell you your request is granted? Will you have to wait until all the circumstances change and everyone sees the answer show up in your life? Or, will you simply accept God's Word as sufficient evidence to believe God has granted your request? Jesus said in Mark 11:24 that we are to believe we receive the answer when we pray. The key to receiving from God is not long praying, but faith. What we believe is what makes the difference. God gave us the Bible to change what we believe, so we could know His will, pray in agreement ...

Daily Christian Quote 27th November 2022

Daily Christian Quote 27th November 2022 Dietrich Bonhoeffer November 27, 2022 Celebrating Advent means learning how to wait. Waiting is an art which our impatient age has forgotten. We want to pluck the fruit before it has had time to ripen. Greedy eyes are soon disappointed when what they saw as luscious fruit is sour to the taste. In disappointment and disgust they throw it away. The fruit, full of promise rots on the ground. It is rejected without thanks by disappointed hands. The blessedness of waiting is lost on those who cannot wait, and the fulfillment of promise is never theirs. They want quick answers to the deepest questions of life and miss the value of those times of anxious waiting, seeking with patient uncertainties until the answers come. They lose the moment when the answers are revealed in dazzling clarity. https://dailychristianquote.com

Christian Quote of the Day - Sweetest of All Doctrines!

Image
Christian Quote of the Day - Sweetest of All Doctrines! To those who are elect and have the Spirit, predestination is the very sweetest of all doctrines, but to the worldly-wise it is the bitterest and hardest of all. The reason God saves in this way is to show that he saves not by our merits but by election pure and simple, and by his unchanging will. We are saved by his unchanging love. — Martin Luther (1483–1546) More quotes by Martin Luther - https://www.christianquote.com/cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/r/christianquote/463607175157/4343e5e7b8381e64fac55b205111fff0/

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional

Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional Morning November 26 Isaiah 8:19-20 19When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? 20To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. One of God's complaints against his people was their willingness to seek direction from mediums and spiritists. When people turn their heart away from God, they will want to know what the future holds so that they can prepare for it. Their fear is not their impending judgment, but circumstances they hope to avoid. They will not inquire of God because God would tell them to change their ways. This fascination with knowing the future stems from a lack of faith and trust in God. If a person is walking in the Spirit, he trusts God for each day. If there is a need to inquire about direction in life, he waits upon the Lord. The Great Shepherd cares for...

Worthy Brief - November 25, 2022

Worthy Brief - November 25, 2022 Who do you trust? Psalms 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. I came across an old article about "fake physicians". According to this article, many American citizens could be receiving medical treatment from doctors who lied on their medical school loan applications and used the money to pay a broker for fake documents. One guy was arrested and later admitted that he was paid beau-coup bucks to hand out approximately a hundred phony medical documents claiming that his clients completed their training! Can you imagine?! Not to scare anyone, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that this kind of thing is commonplace today -- we live in a world full of corruption and deceit. But you know what really DOES surprise me? We would sooner trust in doctors we don't know and medicines we've never heard of than trust in the healing touch of the Lord! We've somehow, been conditio...

Today's Daily Encounter 25th November 2022

Today's Daily Encounter 25th November 2022 Gratitude …always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.1 Gratitude is good for you! There are so many things to be thankful for, from seasonal treats to colorful fall leaves. An attitude of gratitude is a powerful mental tool to practice, not just at Thanksgiving but all through the year. Whether those things are great or small, and whether they involve our loved ones or just a simple pleasure, showing gratitude in everything is a much-needed positive boost we can all use. Counting our blessings is a great way to reflect on the challenges we’ve faced lately and how God brought us through — and how the two are connected. So allow yourself to take a “gratitude moment”. Thank the Lord for your family and the opportunity to spend some extra time with them during the holidays —even when it’s difficult, try to focus on all the things you love about your beautiful, funny, and a little crazy clan. Th...

Christian Quote of the Day - Jesus Did It All

Image
Christian Quote of the Day - Jesus Did It All Our faith itself, though it be the bond of our union with Christ through which we receive all His blessings, is not our savior. We have but one Savior; and that one Savior is Jesus Christ our Lord. Nothing that we are and nothing that we can do enters in the slightest measure into the ground of our acceptance with God. Jesus did it all. -- Benjamin B. Warfield (1851 – 1921) More quotes from Benjamin B. Wayside Chapel Daily Devotional 25th November 2022 Morning November 25 Isaiah 6:3-5 3And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." 4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5"Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty." In Isaiah chapter 5 Isaiah was pronouncing words of woe to the corrupt society in which he lived. In chapter 6 the king had died. Isaiah went into the house of God and saw a vision of God's throne. Angelic beings were flying about the throne singing to each other, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory." The sound of their voices was so powerful that the doorposts and foundations shook. Isaiah was no longer pronouncing woes on others. There in t...

A Bible Devotion Friday, November 25, 2022

A Bible Devotion Friday, November 25, 2022 The Greater One Is In You 1 JOHN 4:4 ICB 4 My dear children, you belong to God. So you have defeated them because God's Spirit, who is in you, is greater than the devil, who is in the world. This message is simple and has two parts: God is greater than anything, and because you're a believer in Jesus Christ, He lives in you. How can anyone argue with the fact that God is greater than any problem? God, the Creator, is above ALL. Nothing is too difficult for Him. Most people believe this. The second part is more difficult to believe: God is in you. Yet, that is the message of the Bible to believers. JOHN 14:16-17 NKJ 16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:19 NKJ 19 Or do you not know that ...
